Vintage Miners Oil Wick Cap Lamp Geo Anton Monongahela City Pa 1898-1905
UP FOR AUCTION IS A VINTAGE GEO ANTON MINING CAP LAMP FROM MONONGAHELA. PA. ACCORDING TO A LITTLE RESEARCH. THE GEO ANTON STAR BRAND LAMP WAS FIRST SOLD IN 1898 AND WAS A COMBINED EFFORT BETWEEN BROTHERS GEORGE AND JOHN ANTON. IN 1905. BROTHER GEORGE WITHDREW HIS NAME FROM THE BUSINESS, AND THE NAME WAS CHANGED TO J.ANTON AND SON. THE COMPANY MANUFACTURED SINGLE AND DOUBLE WALL SPOUTS. THE SINGLE WALL SPOUTS WERE DESIGNED TO BURN A LIQUID FUEL. WHILE THE DOUBLE WALL SPOUT COULD BURN LIQUID OR A PARAFFIN BASED SOLID FUEL SOLD UNDER THE BRAND NAME"SUNSHINE" THIS IS THE DOUBLE WALL SPOUT VERSION. THIS WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF A GEO ANTON LAMP IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR IT'S AGE. IT HAS AN EAGLE AND BADGE LOGO ON THE BACK THAT IS INSCRIBED: TRADE MARK. STAR, GEO ANTON MONONGAHELA CITY, AND WASHINGTON CO. PART OF THE EAGLE AND SOME ... moreLETTERING HAVE FADED AND IS NO LONGER LEDGIBLE. ON THE FRONT IS A MINERS FACE WITH FULL BEARD AND THE BASE IS PINCHED TO REPRESENT FEET. ON THE LID APPEARS TO BE A LITTLE PERSONALIZED TOUCH OF ART THAT WAS ADDED IN SOLDER THAT LOOKS LIKE THE FACE AND HORNS OF A TROLL WITH SOMETHING ELSE THAT LOOKS LIKE A DEER. BUT I'M NOT SURE. THIS IS VERY COOL AND IT IS OPEN TO INTERPERTATION! THE WICK IS STILL IN THE SPOUT AND APPEARS UNUSED. IT IS CLEAN AND REACHES ALL THE WAY TO THE BOTTOM OF THE INSIDE BASE. MEASURES 2 1/2" TALL TO THE TIP OF THE SPOUT AND 1 1/2" ACROSS AT THE BASE. A REALLY NEAT ITEM THAT IS CLEAN AND UNIQUE.
