Antique Coal Miner Lamps Carbide Helmet Hat Universal Lamp Company Auto-Lite
A great antique coal miner's lamp. This belonged to my husband's father who worked in the mines of Eastern KY and Southwest VA. It is a Guys Dropper Auto-Lite carbide lamp made by Universal Lamp Co. The hinged stopper still functions great. No dents or holes. The striker wheel still turns easily. The hat hook is in great condition. No damage at all. It also still has the rubber piece in place on the bottom of the lamp. All I have done is wipe the dust from it. I have made no attempts to clean or remove the patina that time has wrought. Vintage Just Rite coal miners carbide lamp with hat clip. made in USA. Made of brass it is in good condition for it's age. It is missing the bottom and the reflector is 4" across. Antique/Old JUSTRITE Carbide LAMP/Lantern w/ Coal Miner's Mining Canvas HAT
Up for auction is this antique JUSTRITE coal miners lamp on a canvas hat. The hat is quite dirty from use and the lamp is uncleaned. The hat is sort of a camel tan colored canvas. It is lined in faded green soft felted like material, it has a buckle on the back to tighten the hat. There is a bit of rust on the reflector, the lamp has patina along with a bit of grime, I haven't tried to clean it. I see on the underneath of the bottom of the lamp is stamped, 10" see the last photo) As a bonus. Also included in this El Paso Expedition Gold Mines Corporation stock certificate, from the 1913's. It is torn, very creased, unsigned and not worth any stock, but interesting to see. Also included is a small old oddly expose photograph. I am not an expert on this item so please ask questions BEFORE you bid and I will do my best to respond same day. It has the original liner still in place. As you can see from the pictures. The back part of the liner is partially ripped in two spots. It has a leather loop on the back for hanging(original) and a mount on the front that holds the lamp. One side of the mounting bracket is damaged and there is a spider crack right next to that but I can't feel where it goes through to the inside. On the very back right under the leather loop, a small piece is missing at the stitch line 1/2"3/4"approx. No rust on the lamp that I could see. Antique miner's oil wick lamp or light measuring 3" tall and 3-1/2" wide(holder is only 2-1/2" tall) Made of sturdy metal. Can is straight sided with a curved shoulder, solder applied spout and pin bracket weld hook for attaching to a helmet. Complete with hinged bracket lift up lid for filling, it is marked around the shoulder in raised lettering, but so worn I am not sure of the maker. Unusual double lined spout- guessing late 1800s for age. Condition is very nice with no rust, cracks, splits, separation or damage other than lots of age related usage marks and wear- this has definitely seen service- I removed it from a helmet found in my Grandfather's cellar- guessing it belonged to someone in the distant family as there were several relatives who worked the mines in Pennsylvania around the turn. My grandpa was a coal miner here in western PA. So this piece interests me! It is a soft coal miner's cap Hat with a UNIVERSAL LAMP CO. carbide AUTO-LIGHT, Made in USA. Visor is leather and the piece the carbide lamp is attached to is also leather. I cannot find a size on the cap. In good condition. There is a repaired spot on the top seam where someone stitched it. See photos) My grandpa was 83 when he died of Black Lung. He worked at many small mines in the area. Opening them up to get them started. I am proud to be a Coal Miner's granddaughter. Vintage Canvas Leather Double Safety Coal Miners Cap Hat and Autolite Carbide Lamp. The hat is labeled Double Safety on the front and is made of canvas with leather bill and cloth lining. The hat is in good condition with no rips or tears but it is dirty and some rust on the metal parts. It also has a cool small brush pined to the side of the hat for cleaning the carbide lamp nozzle. The carbide lamp is made by Auto Lite. It has a 4 inch reflector that retains most of its original chrome. The flint still makes a spark. It does have some dents and dings on the reflector and body.
