1860s Carbide Mining Prototype McClave Patent Coal Miners Oil Wick Lamp Light
ANTIQUE COAL MINERS OIL WICK LAMP We are offering for sale a very unique unmarked prototype miners lamp. With a little research I believe this to be an early example of the McClave. William McClave was issued one of the earliest patents for a miners oil wick cap lamp. He lived in Hyde Park Luzerne County Pennsylvania and received patent number 49.477 on August 15th 1865. His design is unique among oil wick cap lamps unlike the usual vertical straight sided or tapered cylinder font. His design had a larger diameter font. This design had the advantage of not rocking from side to side. This flatened design kept the lamp closer to the miners head than a regular style of the same size spout since it was not as deep in thickness. An unusual piece. Found in an old work shop. Please save me as a seller or bookmark my auctions. As I will be listing in the next few weeks an amazing collection of historic items, paperwork, advertising and some toys as well. This auction is for an original mid to late 1800s brass miners lamp. The lamp has markings which I will try to write out. But some is worn off and hard to read. The stamp says ~~Bougeoir De Surete Fama~~Brevete S.G.D.G. France Et Etranger~~Then there is a dragon or serpent design~~Agents 15 Faub Monimare Paris~~. Some of this is hard to read and there is some worn off as the serpent is very hard to see. Not sure who is the maker but is definitely an early piece. The lamp measures 11" tall ... morewith a 4" diameter base. It has the original glass which is untracked. Original handle, and the hook for hanging. The metal mesh mantle piece has been smushed in few areas but not cracked or broken. All three letters are a single page on the company’s stationary which is titled“ Carbon Coal& Clay Company. Successors to Carbon Coal Co. and Green River Coal Co. Another provides a statement about ... moreQuick Assets and Quick Liabilities and another provides a statement of earnings and expenses for the month of March 1921 and discusses also a miners strike and reads in part: From reliable unofficial sources we learned that the men are not going to receive anywhere near the strike benefits they expect to get from the International Union and this may have some effect in hastening a settlement… the men are petulant and inclined to object to some of the economics we have had them practice. There is no rough stuff or attempt to in any way damage the mine or any of the equipment. Very truly yours, D.S. Hanley, President” Attached to the last letter is a Statement of Earnings& Expenses and two page Trial Balance for the Carbon Coal& Clay Company for March 1921. Antique Coal Mining, Oil Lamp, Dunlap??, Pittsburgh, Pa. Embossed
This old oil lamp is in good shape. And the name Dunlap, Pittsburgh are embossed near the top. It has the original wick inside. This one was used some because there is wear to it from use. It stands app. 3 1/4" tall to the top of the spout, and 1 1/2" in diameter. I'm not positive about the word Dunlap on top, it's hard to make out, but the word Pittsburgh is clear. Good Luck Bidding.
Awesome and original pre 1900 mining oil can. Out of the Sutter Creek, Cal, area
This is an original pre 1900 mining oil can that was used to oil whatever machinery that they used. They are usually sold as small canteens or Confederate Canteens but that is not what they are. So many of these small cans have been found in mines all over the West and through the mining states. It measures 5 1/8" tall by 4 3/8" wide. There are some small dents on one side and a small piece of brass stuck to the exterior of the other side. If you look at the photo you can see it and judge it for yourself. It resembles a cap for a musket but is way to small for that. The original stopper cap is gone but I have seen dozens of these and none has ever had the cap. Shipping will be a flat $7.50 with USPS Priority Mail in the C.U.S. Please agree to this shipping method if you bid.

The Zais Company was a family owned business, and the names of family members(stamped into the lamps as unreadable acrostics) were used as a code to identify different runs of lamps as they were manufactured. This lamp has a small bend at the edge of the lid(which was probably deliberate, to make the lamp easier to open) some small dents at the base of the spout(photo number six) and a few small ... moredents on and just above the manufacturers lettering shield. Antique Mining Drill Bit Sharp and Hughes style TrCone Bit c 1908 Petroliana Oil
Hello. And thank you for checking out my auctions, and make sure to look at my other stuff, and check back now and then. I make an honest effort to provide some really fun and unique things and take great interest in providing a no nonsense approach with all areas of service. I do pack items very well, and ship out very quickly. As a collector and buyer myself, I know how disappointing it can be to receive an item that has been literally destroyed due to shoddy packaging. It seems like there is no shortage of these types on ebay. Although I have no control whatsoever how an item is handled on its way to the buyer, I do make sure it is well protected in the box, and should arrive safe and sound, regardless of a few bumps and scrapes along the way. I do take my feedback and ratings seriously, and all I ask is that the winner communicate any ... moreproblems or concerns with me in a reasonable manner. By the way, I do communicate well with buyers and sellers alike. Seems like there are not so many sellers willing to communicate promptly these days) I am quite easy to deal with. And I look forward to providing you with a great item and great service. I do have a career that sometimes takes me out of town unexpectedly for a few days at a time. If this were to happen I would notify the buyer if there were to be a delay. This only happened once before, and it wound up shipping out 3 days after payment instead of the usual next day, but the buyer still wound up getting the item within 5 days! On my auctions that have best offer options, I welcome any offers, and do not get offended by"low ball" offers. I completely understand the concept of trying to get the best deal possible, and I am willing to work with people. Also, it doesn't matter if the item sells for 1 penny or 1 thousand dollars, I will provide the same level of service for all items. Very excellent old bit of the Sharp and Hughes cone style widely used in the petroleum and natural gas fields circa 1908. Great display piece of some historical significanc
