This is guaranteed to be old and is not a reproduction. It is in good condition but does have some dents from wear and use. There are also a few small rust spots. Pittsburgh Coal Co. Pittston Coal Pin - Pennsylvania Coal Mining, Miners
Old pin advertising the Pittsburgh Coal Company's Pittston Coal brand. Measures approx. 1" in diameter. Excellent condition. The Pittsburgh Coal Company was a bituminous coal mining company. Controlled by the Mellon family. It later merged with Consolidation Coal Company, controlled by the Rockefeller family. Pittsburgh Coal ran numerous coal mines in Allegheny County during the early 20th century. In 1915. It merged with the Monongahela River Consolidated Coal and Coke Company. It operated the Darr Mine in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, among others. The company operated the Coal Hill Coal Railroad. A 1.5 mile, narrow gauge railroad until 1871, when it was sold to the Pittsburgh and Castle Shannon Railroad, which lengthened the line. The company assumed control of the Montour Railroad in 1901. The Hudson Coal Company, a subsidiary of the Delaware and Hudson Railroad Company. Employed ten thousand men at its fourteen mines and six breakers in northeastern Pennsylvania. Three-quarters of these employees worked underground. The company’s Marvine Colliery. Which occupied four hundred acres in Scranton, Lackawanna County, was one of the region’s largest preparers of hard coal.
