Sideburn's house band, The Stags, are resurrecting their Halloween bash for this year. In Wigan (where else).
It sounds like it's going to be a belter.
All Sideburn disciples and Dirt Quakers welcome!

Static Records, Wigan

Static Records is a great used record store in Wigan, Lancashire. It's run by Conway Castle of The Stags and is now a stockist of Sideburn magazine. Thanks Conway!
They have an online record store too - Static Records, Wigan.

If you want to become a Sideburn stockist, please email us at dirt @ sideburnmagazine.com

You can hear a song written by Conway and played by his bandmates if you buy a record player and Sideburn Sticker Pack 3. It includes the limited edition 7in vinyl (released on Sideburn records), five vinyl stickers and a programme from Dirt Quake II. All for £5 plus post. G

The Stags

Tonight in Bristol! i'll be there. BP

New Sticker (and record) Pack

Five stickers and The Stags 7in vinyl single (released on Sideburn records) and a programme from Dirt Quake I for £5 (plus post).

You don't have a record player? Don't worry, this cultural artefact is so beautiful you'll want to leave it on coffee table/ floor/ cell bunk purely to fondle during idle moments or as a handy conversation starter with:
A) Old people, 'I haven't seen one of those for years. I've never heard of this band though. Are they like Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass?'
Or
B) Young people: 'What's this a coaster? Eh? Like a digital download from the Roman Empire. Oh, cool. Here take a tenner for it, I bet it's worth a fortune.'

Get yours at the Sideburn webshop. G
Oh yeah, and those new stickers are Chris Watson's interpretations of me (Gary) racing my Wood Rotax in the DTRA and Ben 'Poncho' Part racing his Yamaha XS650 chopper at Dirt Quake. Self-indulgent, I know, but we've given up waiting for our Arai replica lid, Vans signature shoe or even our name on the side of can of Diet Coke, so we did it ourselves.

Killer Diller x The Stags x Cherry Wainer x Don Storr

So, perhaps you have a party and no soundtrack. Perhaps you have no party. Perhaps you're washing dishes in the back of a restaurant this holiday season, working in a petrol station, guarding a warehouse, nightwatch in an old folks home or you're a Sikh (or one of the many other religions that don't celebrate Christmas). Perhaps you are just a music fan with similar tastes to me. Whatever you may be, animal, vegetable or mineral, your life will be enriched, by following the link below to listen to the latest instalment of Sideburn's official DJ, Mr Johnny Alpha's radio show - the Killer Diller Christmas Special. He has, as his guest, the partially-drunken Stags.

There are a few familiar (to me) tracks on the mix, but I was turned on to a new name - Cherry Rainer. I googled her and found this amazing film from a German TV show from the 1960s Beat! Beat! Beat! Cherry has a Sassoon bob so sharp it could cut 10mm MDF and her drummer, Don Storr, looks like a prison amateur dramatics society's casting of Richard Nixon. I have imagined whole back stories for Cherry and Don, but I know nothing of their real lives.

The show also includes The Stags playing Rollergürl, a 7in that was released by Sideburn. We have a few left... Follow the link to get your own ltd. edition Stags single. G

UPDATE: The Stags are playing Camden, London on December 28th, and the Hipsville Christmas Party. They're on first, so don't be late. More details here.

SIDEBURN #13 Krazy Horse Party Snaps

The Arctic Tundra followed us to Bury St Edmunds for the launch party. Ryan Quickfall and his girlfriend skied all the way from Newcastle (downhill all the way so it was pretty easy). Dave Skooterfarm took 2 hours just to dig his van out of his snow drift front garden before setting off from Wigan. There was even a bobsleigh team from London captained by Sarah Bradley. But even madder than mad Jim McMad was the only two motorcyclists who braved the sub zero elements to win our two trophies 'Best Street Tracker' and 'Furthest Traveled by Motorcycle'.Thanks to the Stags for playing and everybody else who turned up.Then there was the after-party. Thanks Paul for being such a great host. The Heart of Suffolk indeed. BP

  • Bar and Krazy Horse's permanent on-site cafe

  • The date is Saturday 23rd March, 2-8pm.

    The Stags in London

Sideburn's houseband, The Stags, are playing Camden, London on Sat 29th of December. They're supported by Bristol's Hi Class Joes (below), who played at the Rollerburn pre-party and - I think - the last British Linkert Attacks.

Every Stags show is unique and we can't promise a Theremin Helmet solo (like in this clip), but if you can make it, it'll be a beauty.
Remember, we released a Stags 7in. It's a beauty too. Get it here. G

PS These are the real Stags, not the new band that's trying to steal their name.

    More Marco Cremascoli

Ross Rusty Nail Honda C90, carving up Guy on his BMW and compères Conway Castle with Kenny Roquette
Extra photos from the web Gallery of Marco Cremascoli who shot Dirt Quake for Riders Magazine. BP

UPDATE: Anyone else noticed how much the body language, arm position and angle of dangle of Guy and Ross, on two ridiculously mismatched bikes, looks like the two pro flat trackers in the post below? You've either got it, or you haven't. G

    More aftershocks

The tremors from Dirt Quake are still rattling windows the world over. The classy Italian bike mag, Riders has now published their Dirt Quake report. It's on sale now, in Italy.
Remember, they drove all the way from Milan to race their crazy Honda, Spillo, and won the Street Tracker class.
I love those photos of Stevie (just before he broke something) and Conway and Topsy from The Stags (not to be confused with a new London band called Stags).
By the way, Gioco Sporco means Dirty Game.
And sorry, don't know where you can get it outside of Italy. G

    You couldn't make it up

The Dirt Quake pace pie driven by Spencer of The Stags. Sideburn's Ben Poncho and Rob Oily Rags.
The Sideburn Stig, on our Project Royal Enfield cover bike, chases Carl CFM on our Project FT cover bike. Ride them, don't hide them. Peter Jordan is on the Triumph.

Some shots nicked from Flat Tel's flickr. There are 298 over there. Thanks Tel. G

    Glamour

As if Dirt Quake required any more glamour, the Sideburn Roller Derby Team (above) have transformed into the Sideburn Roller Display Team for one night only.
Additional glamour will be supplied by Topsy, Kenny Roquette and Conway Castle of The Stags who are carrying out MC duties.
Remember, racing from 11am, main event (chopper speedway, bands, vintage speedway, stunt riders, assorted lunacy) from 4pm.
£10 on the door or buy Dirt Quake tickets in advance, save money and get free stickers.
Also, we have had some event T-shirts printed. They're black and will be £12 on the day. Sizes S to XXL and some ladies ones, too. Anyone racing in the Dirt Quake classes will be given £5 off the shirt. G

    Big Night Out

I rode the 110 miles down to London to see The Stags play at the Soundflat Records party at The Stag's Head, Hoxton. I didn't know how great it was going to be. The venue is cool, with a tiny stage. Loads of interesting people turned up, the DJ - the boss of Soundflat Records, whose party it was, rivalled Johnny Alpha for danceable rare tunes, including an original pressing of Northern Soul classic, Magic Touch.
First band up, MFC Chicken, looked like a 50s prom combo, but sounded like The Sonics. All their songs were about love or chicken. Or loving chicken. Can't wait to see them again.Sideburn's Dave Skooter Farm played in two bands on the night, The Stags and first, The Shook-Ups, who did a great set of original garage killers with lead singer Steve getting turned on by the crowd's attention.
Race van, band van. LDV does everything.
    No hot ashes
Stags Style: slip-ons and manmade fibres.
Somewhat disappointingly Topsy Stag didn't bother getting dressed up for this gig.
Big daft Shaun and Stags drummer Kenny Roquette. The Stags in action!
Stags keyboard maestro Spencer Chess was on fire.
Two go-go dancers flew in from Paris just to see the gig. They had matching shimmy dresses (Dave told me that's the name of them and it makes sense) and danced for the whole Stags set. That's what the Stags do to people. This is Spencer Chess with one of them. The other was Mimi de Monmartre. Youtube search her if you're feeling down.
A couple of interesting cruisers were locked up outside. I never imagined anyone this cool would be riding. The lady had hotpants, patent high heels and a Wookie fur jacket, the chap had black and white correspondent brogues and fanciful facial hair. Good going.
1.20am. 70 miles down, 40 to go. The Cockroach now stands me at £1100 with new Continental tyres, oil change, and a day or so at CFM fitting the lights and clocks that the previous owner cut off. About ten minutes after this I was buzzed on the A1 by motorway plod. I dropped from 85 to 70 and he shadowed me for a couple of miles, probably running my plate, then had the decency to leave me alone, for which I was grateful. Common sense rules.
    Great night out. G
