The Desert of Death

If you're going to pedal 330 miles through the Taklaman Desert, known by the locals as the Desert of Death, without stopping for more than a pee and the odd snack, on a single speed, you might as well do it in a Dirt Quake T-shirt, right? Cheers Guy.

Free post on Dirt Quake shirts. Limited sizes. While stocks last. Get yours HERE.

We have a couple left in kids sizes too.

Worms To Catch

Long-term Sideburn supporter and regular columnist, Guy Martin has a new autobiographical book, Worms To Catch, out this week.

Wait a minute, you're thinking. Didn't he have an autobiography out a couple of years ago and a follow-up called When You Dead, You Dead?

Well yes, but Guy lives life four times quicker than everyone else and these autobiographies are long-form diaries of one of the most interesting, daredevil, hardcore lives being lived anywhere in the world. This one includes the behind-the-scenes stories of the Wall of Death record, Land Speed record attempts, Transit van at the Silver State Classic, the 2400-mile Tour Divide mountain bike race, Dirt Quake and much more.

The books are available at all good book shops, online and some British supermarkets are doing deals on them.

Not only that. The cover of this soon to be bestseller was shot by Sam Christmas and taken from the Sideburn 26 shoot of Guy's Rob North wall of death bike. Buy Sideburn 26, then buy Worms To Catch.

Guy's own Guy Martin Proper website is selling an exclusive version of Worms To Catch that is personally signed by the rider and had a cover illustrated by Ryan Quickfall. G

Sideburn 26: World Exclusive

Earlier this year Guy Martin established the record for highest speed on a wall of death riding a Krazy Horse-prepared Indian Scout at 70.3mph. He then went out on his own Rob North BSA Rocket triple and raised the record to 78mph and change, while being subjected to 7G.

You haven't read about the Rob North because it hasn't been featured in any magazines in the world. Until now. Guy only wanted the bike in one magazine, Sideburn.

It was shot in Grimsby for Sideburn by Sam Christmas. We also had Mick Ofield create a blueprint of Guy's bike and highly respected journalist Mick Duckworth write about the history of Rob North and his famous racing frames.

There is only one place to read these features - in the beautifully printed Sideburn 26.

Also, in the same issue, is our regular Ask Guy page, where the very British daredevil answers Sideburn readers' questions. If you want him to answer yours, send it in to dirt @ sideburnmagazine.com

World's Fastest Sweatshirt?

Spotted on Triumph's Official facebook page, Guy Martin out on Bonneville Salt Flats, testing the Triumph Rocket streamliner while wearing a Sideburn Engine sweatshirt. The photos are from the first day of practice, with the stabilisers on. They didn't stay on for long. The bloke's a natural.

Guy Martin vs The World of Physics

Record addict Guy Martin will be at the Bonneville Salt Flats later this month for a Triumph-backed attempt on the motorcycle land speed record.

The Infor Rocket streamliner is the latest in a 60-year history of Triumph velocitubes to contest the record in Utah. With around 1000bhp from two turbo-charged Rocket III engines on hand, Guy will be looking to top the the 376mph record that's been held by Californian Rocky Robinson since he piloted the twin Suzuki Hayabusa-powered Ack Attack to glory in 2010.

Rumours of tea-making facilities built into a compartment behind the cockpit have yet to be quashed by Triumph officials.

Here's a video of Guy meeting the Infor Rocket for the first time. The attempt will be shown by the UK's Channel Four, though no air-date has yet been set. MP

Thanks to everyone who made Dirt Quake V such great fun. Guy raced a Krazy Horse Swedish chopper with 22in over Tolle forks. Carl Fogarty raced a trick Triumph Bonneville. And both of them were beaten into second place by Sideburn readers.
It was non-stop fun and ran like clockwork. Thanks again everyone.

We need a snap of your to put next to your question too.

Guy Martin's Wall of Death

Don't forget to watch Guy Martin's Wall of Death tonight, 7.15, Channel 4. There are lots of Sideburn intersections in the Venn diagram of this attempt.

1. Guy is a long-time supporter of Sideburn and has agreed to write a regular column for each issue starting with Sideburn 24.
He also wrote about racing at Dirt Quake for Sideburn 23.

2. He will ride more than one bike on the wall (if all goes to plan). He has been practicing on, and will ride, an Indian Scout, that's been seriously modified by our mates at Krazy Horse. Guy has raced the Krazy Horse Sportster at the previous two Dirt Quakes and first met Paul from Krazy Horse at Rollerburn, our 2011 event.

3. Guy's mentor through the event has been Ken Fox, and one of the Fox family's Wall of Death is returning to this year's Dirt Quake. Get your Dirt Quake tickets now.

Good luck Guy! G

Guy wears Sideburn

I was chuffed to see Guy Martin wearing one of Sideburn's T-shirts during his hour-long F1 Speed special last night. The programme showed Guy on a Tyco BMW S1000RR, competing in a number of challenges against 13-time F1 race-winner, David Coulthard driving a 2012 (or 2013?) Red Bull F1 car, at Silverstone.

We have a limited number of the same blue Sideburn XR750 T-shirts, in sizes right up to triple XL, priced at £18 plus post. We also have XR750 blueprints, drawn for Sideburn by Mick Ofield, that the T-shirt art was based on. They are £22 plus post.

If you're in the UK, or can work out some special internet way around it, you can watch the programme at Guy Martin Speed F1 Special.

Finally, Guy offered to do a regular Q&A column for Sideburn. The first one is in Sideburn 24, out soon. More details in the next few days. G

Flashback: Rollerburn

Back in 2011 Sideburn and some friends came up with an idea for a bike show that incorporated riding, all different kids of custom bikes, stalls, live music and roller derby.

It was the kickstart for a lot of the current UK 'shed built' scene, like the Bike Shed shows.

This advert was made by Drogo Michie, who later joined the DTRA as Thunderbike racer on his own, very smart Co-Built Rotax.

Guy Martin came, so did Charlie Chuck (Uncle Peter) and I joined them for a Rollerball race at the end. It was as sketchy as hell. G

Any order from the Sideburn webshop, placed in the month of January 2016, is entered into a free draw to win one special Sideburn 23 signed by Guy Martin.

We made this special edition of the current issue for the Guy Martin Proper official website. The cover image is of Guy racing the Krazy Horse Harley Sportster at Dirt Quake IV, last summer. All you have to do to be in with a chance to win it, is order something or sign up for a subscription at sideburn.bigcartel.com.

We'll announce the winner on February 1. G

Sideburn 18 Unearthed

UPDATE: They've all sold. We'll announce more issues on the blog if they ever turn up.
This issue sold out remarkably quickly (something to do with Guy Martin shot by Sam Christmas being on the cover?).
I've just found two in the bottom of a box of something else.
They might be very, very slightly warehouse worn, but I can't spot anything wrong with them.

Go to sideburn.bigcartel.com to order if you want one. £5 plus post. G

Guy Martin Ulster Crash

Dirt Quake hero, long time ally of Sideburn and total one-off, Guy Martin had an horrendous crash at the Dundrod 150 last week. This race is part of the Ulster GP race festival and held on the fastest racetrack in the world (with a faster average speed than even the Isle of Man TT, with a lap record speed of 133.997mph). Guy was leading the race, ahead of outright lap record holder Bruce Anstey, when he was viciously highsided.

He suffered multiple broken bones: five vertebrae; hand; sternum and is very badly beaten up. He's had his spine pinned. It means his Triumph-supported attempt at the land speed record is now postponed until further notice.

It seems a little bit mercenary, but I'll say it anyway... Guy fans might like the Sideburn x Guy Martin T-shirt we have a few of. Every order gets a Chris Watson-designed Guy sticker too (while stocks last). G
