Travis Welcomes Visitors

The Deus blog keeps on trucking with high quality content and I check it regularly. Today I was treated to the joy of seeing Sideburn's Travis and his great Denver bike shop on there.

The post was written by Deus Venice USA big cheese Julian Heppekausen with photos taken on disposable film cameras. Co-Built Geoff shows up in the photos too.

See all the photos and read the short Shop Visit report at the Deus Blog. G

Papa Wolf Supply Co

Papa Wolf Supply Co in Portsmouth, New Hampshire USA now stocks Sideburn. This is what they say about themselves...

Two friends with a shared vision founded Papa Wolf Supply Co. in 2014. For a year we occupied a humble 200 sqft. shop in Dover, NH where we were only open on Saturdays and quickly grew an online following through instagram. The majority of that success came out of our authentic involvement and commitment with our customers and manufacturers. After several successful pop-up shops we decided it was time to move the shop to Portsmouth. Excited to expand we decided to open a 1,500 sq. foot brick and mortar location in Portsmouth, NH.

If you want to enquire about becoming a stockist, please email us at dirt @ sideburnmagazine.com

Newbold's Motorbike Shop

I had the opportunity to visit racer, friend and poet, Travis Newbold and his motorcycle shop in Wheat Ridge, Denver last week. This is what I found...
That's Travis and his junkyard XS650 that he is going to ride off-road from LA to Barstow next Spring. He has monoshocked it with an old YZ back end. I think the front end is YZ too. Seat and plastics are Kawasaki (from a junk yard, like the YZ bits).
 Tools and stickers...
Helmets and trophies.
 More stickers
A Monkey.
About 10% of Travis's trophy haul.
 A few more trophies.
Travis's favourite trophies in a glass case - from Pikes Peak and his Dirt Quake II number board.
 His first race gloves.
 Hondasaki project.
This is how Travis and his dog Baja travel the few miles to work most days. Baja has ridden with Travis since she was a pup. A woman in a car pulled up next to Travis and started threatening to ring the police and report him for animal cruelty. Travis explained that the dog had more sense than him and her put together and if she didn't want to get on the bike she wouldn't. That shut her up.

The Sideburn Poet

I'm pretty sure Sideburn is the only motorcycle magazine to list a poet on the staff. And even if others had a poet, he'd be nothing like ours.
That's him above, bearded, after coming third in a big enduro race in the US and collecting his share of a $3000 purse.
Travis Newbold is his name. He races enduro, MX, flat track and he was the sixth fastest vehicle of any description at the 2012 Pike's Peak Hillclimb and 450 champ at that legendary race. He also runs a bike shop in Denver, Newbold's Motorbike Shop (photos below).
Read his poetry in Sideburn 12 and 13.
Check his 747 Rider blog too.
Oh, and he's coming all the way from Colorado to race at Dirt Quake 2. Are you going to be there? G

SEE SEE

Thor Drake philosophizes about exploding antique 2-strokes, and defying gravity on them in SB#11. And there's no better place to kick back and read it cover-to-cover than in the See See cafe. BP

Officine Mermaid, Milan

Going back to Milan for the Showdown Show next Saturdays means I can take Ben and Skooter Farm Dave to a great shop I visited last time I was there, Officine Mermaid. It's a place with it's own feel, not trying to copy the (much-copied) Glory Sales and Service vibe.
Deus SR outside. Mermaid stock Deus clothing too.
There's a glass floor in the showroom with a bunch of chops, including an Indian Larry one, down below. A huge scissor lift in the floor drops bikes to the lower level.
Tasty Zero-style lowrider on the bench.
Milanese Harley riders are a little different. I can't put my finger on it. I know, he's gone for a Windsor knot rather than a four-in-hand.
