This week I'm obsessed with... Cover FX Custom Cover Drops!

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops - 15ml - $56 - in a range of 25 light to deep shades, it's a revolutionary dropper bottle of pure pigment to mix with your favorite liquid beauty products for your own custom creation.

It's like having a personalized foundation and tinted moisturizer in one bottle - you can customize the desired finish by what you use the drops in:

For a radiant finish, add to products like oils, serums, or creams or a matte finish, mix with a mattifying primer or lightweight lotion.

And the level of coverage by the amount you use:

1 drop =  sheer coverage
2 drops = medium coverage
3 drops = full coverage
4 drops = total coverage

You can also use it to adjust the shade of a foundation you already own - lighten or darken it depending on the shade of the cover drops you add - which is great for turning a winter foundation darker once you get some sun or a summer foundation lighter once your tan fades!

Available now at Sephora and sephora.ca.

This week I'm obsessed with... Cover FX Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen SPF 30!

If your excuse for not wearing sunscreen each and every day (like you should, even it's cloudy outside) is you don't like the way it feels on your skin - your excuses are over thanks to a sunscreen that feels like absolutely nothing!

Cover FX Clear Cover Invisible Sunscreen SPF 30 - 30ml - $58 - an ultra-lightweight sunscreen with broad-spectrum SPF 30 coverage that is suitable for all skin types and invisible on all skintones.

It has a weightless gel-like textures that melts seamlessly into the skin creating a smooth, non-greasy finish that’s ideal for wearing alone or underneath makeup. And if that wasn't enough, it's a skincare and sun care product in one, formulated with squalane and natural sesame extract to nourish, soften and moisturize skin, while antioxidants from tomato extract help boost the skin’s ability to defend itself against free radicals, sun damage, pollution and other environmental aggressors.  With consistent daily use, skin appears brighter, healthier, and more youthful.

Available now at Sephora and sephora.ca.

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops - 15ml - $52 - in 3 new shades: Halo - holographic effect, Blossom - soft pearlescent pink, Rose Gold - warm pink - that can be used to create a buildable highlight - use them alone for a light reflective strobing even on top of powder or add them to your favorite liquid foundation or skincare product for an all-over glow. Or you can do it the easy, lazy way that I do it, just dab a few small drops on bare skin after moisturizing but before foundation and as you apply your foundation with a brush or sponge it will automatically mix the illuminator in - no extra work required!

They're formulated with a high concentration of ultra-fine pearl particles that produce a lit-from-within glow without ever appearing too glittery or overdone. As an added benefit, they contain a  nourishing trio of jojoba, sunflower and mimosa  to soften, moisturize and plump skin. Each weightless, silky drop diffuses light and imparts a soft-focus look that helps blur out skin imperfections, such as fine lines and scars for a perfected, lustrous finish - the more drops you use, the more luminosity you’ll get, allowing you to customize your glow.

Available now at Sephora and sephora.ca.

Needful Things - Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray

Cover FX Illuminating Setting Spray - 120ml - $39 - a quick-drying, alcohol-free, ultra-fine setting spray that sets makeup for all-day wear, while it imparts instant, all-over illumination - on face and body. Spray a little for a discreet glow or layer on to intensify.

Not only does it look great over makeup as well helping to prevent it from fading, melting, smudging, caking and settling into fine lines, but it also adds a nice sheen to bare skin for a little polish when you don't feel like making up!

Available now at Sephora and sephora.ca.

This week I'm obsessed with... Cover FX Custom Blot Drops!

Cover FX Custom Blot Drops - 30ml - $52 - non-drying, oil-absorbing drops that add a mattifying effect to liquid skincare of cosmetic products including serum, moisturizer, primer and foundation or can be applied directly to your skin before or after makeup - to help you eliminate shine at any step of your beauty routine.

The formula balances the skin - specifically those that are combination, oily and acne-prone - with a complex of ingredients that control excess oil; while exfoliating salicylic acid helps keep pores clear; cucumber extract and papaya fruit help hydrate skin to keep it from feeling tight; and chamomile extract soothes and tones.

My favourite way to use it is a few times a day as a substitute for blotting papers in my oily t-zone area - unlike blotting papers, it gets rid of the shine without rubbing off my foundation!

Available at Sephora and sephora.ca.

This oil-free colour and complexion correcting cream treats, corrects, and protects  skin with buildable coverage and contains natural, retinoid-like ingredients to deliver antiaging benefits without irritation or sun sensitivity; vitamin C to attack hyper-pigmentation and prevent future discolouration; while time-released treatments stimulate cell renewal continuously for eight hours

Take a powder with Cover FX, Maybelline and Make Up For Ever!

Cover FX Pressed Mineral Foundation - $35 - a pressed mineral foundation that provides sheer to full buildable coverage and contains oil-absorbing microspheres and moisturizing benefits - it features a matte finish that is never cakey or drying to the skin and is free of gluten, mineral oil and talc.

If you've looked at the Cover FX line before but found it confusing picking a shade, you'll be happy to know that the shade system is now easier to follow, is inclusive of all skintones and comes in 24 shades - with each shade scientifically 3% darker than the previous shade in the series.

To find your match just decide on your underlying skintone: pink, neutral or golden; and from that series pick the perfect shade:

P = Pink: P20 - fair to light, P30 - light to medium, P40 - medium, P50 - medium to tan;

N = Neutral (equal parts pink and golden): N10 - porcelain to light, N20 - fair to light, N25 - light, N30 - light to medium, N35 - medium light, N40 - medium, N50 - medium to tan, N60 - medium-deep, N70 - medium to deeply tanned, N80 - deep medium, N90 - dark to deep, N100 - deep, N110 - deepest, rich ebony

G = Golden: G20 - fair to light, G30 - light to medium, G40 - medium, G50 - medium to tan, G60 - medium-deep, G70 - medium to deeply tanned, G80 - deep medium.

The lower the number, the lighter the shade. If you aren't sure what your undertone is, start with the N series - if the shade looks too Pink, find your shade in the Golden undertones. If the shade looks too Yellow, find your shade in the Pink undertones.

Available at Murale, Shoppers Drug Mart and Sephora.
Maybelline Dream Wonder Powder - $13.49 - in 12 natural shades: Porcelain Ivory, Ivory, Classic Ivory, Nude, Creamy Natural, Sandy Beige, Pure Beige, Natural Beige, Medium Buff, Honey Beige, Buff Beige and Caramel - that offer second-skin perfection for the perfect no-makeup look. It's different from traditional powders because of its smooth-whipped, creamy texture which offers a soft, sleek look and silky touch that is chalk-free with 60% less talc.

Available now at drug and mass retailers across Canada.
and I know I already posted this one but in case you missed it, you don't want to miss it!

Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder - $41 - anyone who already loves the Microfinish Loose Powder but hates how un-portable it is has been waiting for this one - a PRESSED silky, lightweight finishing powder that softens the appearance of fine lines and pores and is perfect for use throughout the day to reduce shine and slightly mattify skin.

If you've never tried it, where the hell have you been?! It's great for all skin types, one universal shade fits all and it adds a soft-focus, naturally radiant effect to blur imperfections, such as fine lines and pores, while remaining completely invisible to even the most magnified HD lens. Just be careful not to use too much, it will show a white cast to the skin in pictures if you overdo it, just look at any "star's makeup mishaps" in the tabloids and you are sure to see an example of someone who did just that! And for these cold winter days, it's especially great that it's formulated with hyaluronic acid to help prevent skin dehydration.

You can use it with a powder sponge or puff but I find apply it like that shifts my foundation around too much so I prefer applying even my loose powder with a brush - Make Up For Ever has a lovely powder kabuki brush but it doesn't have a cover so for traveling with it, I prefer the Lise Watier retractable powder brush which is perfect for tossing in your bag and keeping it mess-free.

Available exclusively at Sephora, sephora.ca and Make Up For Ever boutiques.

It will soon be too cold to go to the beach but you can still have beach hair!

Charlotte Ronson A Perfect Mess Beach Hair - 118ml - $20 - a styling spray for creating texture and a tousled hairstyle - I was so excited to hear that Sephora was carrying Charlotte Ronson and I had heard about this spray so I had to try it! I have chin length, very fine and pretty straight hair so any product that can add some texture and life to my hair is a god-send and this one does a great job! I also got a friend of mine who has long curly hair to try it and she was also impressed because it gave her curl some definition, made them less frizzy and as she put it, made her look like a "California beach goddess who spends her days surfing and picking up hot guys in a wetsuit" - I didn't feel like wearing a wetsuit at all when I tried it but that's probably a good thing for everyone! The other thing you will appreciate is that this costs the same - $20 - in Canada and the US - so for a change we aren't getting hosed on the price!

Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray - 125ml - $11.99 - this product promises a beachy tousled look, to add body and texture to straight, fine hair or to pump up the curl in already wavy hair.  It contains Hydrolyzed Silk and Provitamin B5 to protect your hair while adding moisture and shine and UV Protectors to absorb ultraviolet light and protect your hair from harmful sun exposure, dehydration and colour-fade. You check out my experience with it here.

And for your soon to be pasty white legs and whatever else:

NARS Laguna Body Illuminator - 150ml - $52 - a body bronzer that can be used head to toe. Delicately scented with exotic Monoï de Tahiti oil, it can be massaged onto the legs, arms, décolleté or wherever you want beautiful bronze shimmer. Its transfer-proof formula will not rub off on clothing. Contains pure Tamanu Oil, known for its conditioning and hydrating properties; açaí oil and polar berries (cloudberry, raspberry, black currant) known for their antioxidant and emollient properties; bisabolol, obtained from the chamomile plant and used to soothe and care for dry skin; and Indian Frankincense, known for its soothing and comforting properties. You can check out my thoughts on it here.

Charlotte Ronson A Summer's Kiss Face and Body Glow - 88ml - $18 - more Charlotte Ronson love! Charlotte calls it "summer in a bottle" which is an apt description! It's a weightless oil free bronzer that gives skin a shimmery, sun-kissed glow while evening and brightening the complexion. With a light filtering technology that adjusts to absorb and reflect light, creating exceptional glowing effects under any light. Enhanced with vitamins C and E.

Both products are available at Sephora and sephora.com.

Tell us about your favourites that help you keep summer alive!

3 beauty tools that I can't live without - from Jerdon, Cover FX and Shiseido!

When we think about getting ready and making ourselves beautiful we tend to credit the lipsticks, foundations and other colour cosmetics with the final result but give very little thought to the behind the scenes items that make getting to beautiful possible! Here are 3 that I now could never do without:

Jerdon First Class Deluxe Lighted Makeup Mirror JGL9W 5X  - $29.99 - this tri-fold mirror has regular and 5x magnification; four light settings: day, office, evening and home; and a built-in outlet.!

I used to have one of these when I had a basement apartment with almost no natural light - it got lost or broken in a move and I never replaced it and I had forgotten until trying this one how handy it is to have those different light settings! The light in my bathroom is totally different from the lighting at the office so it makes much more sense to apply my makeup for where I will be rather than where I am. The outlet is very handy too for being able to plug in my flatiron closer to a mirror then I am normally able to as well!

Available at Amazon.com and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Cover FX #130 Foundation Brush - $38 - if my foundation doesn't look good then the rest of my makeup isn't going to look as good as it could and since I usually wear a liquid foundation or tinted moisturizer, I like to apply it with a brush. I have run the gauntlet of brushes and could never find just the right one until I happened on this Cover FX beauty - not too hard or too soft, it deposits just the right amount of foundation on my face without absorbing too much of it. As someone who used to use sponges to apply foundation, I never realized just how much of my foundation the sponge was sucking up and wasting until I started using a good brush which will absorb almost none!

Available at Shoppers Drug Mart, Murale, Sephora and The Bay. Go to www.coverfx.com to find a retailer near you
Shiseido Facial Cotton - 80g - $8 - I know that you're thinking - "$8 for cotton pads, are you out of your mind!" - I get it and used to say the same thing until I tried one and I swear, I will never use a cheapie one again! The difference between these and the store brand cotton pads I used to buy is how soft the Shiseido ones are - since I use them to take off eye makeup and apply toner, it makes sense that I would want to use something as soft as possible. Until I started using them I didn't realize how scratchy the store brand ones are! The only thing these aren't as good for is taking off nail polish, because they are so soft, bits of them tend to attach to the softened polish - so I've kept my rougher pads for that!

You can find them at Shoppers Drug Mart when they are in stock but they always seem to be sold out. I recently discovered that The Shopping Channel also carries them in bundles of 2 for $16 so they will be no new "go to" place for them!

What are your beauty tool "stars"?

Canada Day seems like a great day to not only proclaim your love for our country, but also your favourite Canadian cosmetic companies!  Hope everyone is enjoying a great day, so put down your drinks for a minute (or drink while you read) and check out my most beloved product pick (right now) from each great Canadian company!

Marcelle - not only do they have a kick-ass blog but great limited edition collections and skin care products at incredibly reasonable prices! My newest love is the Lux Gloss Creme - it's shiny like a gloss but with more pigmentation like a lipstick! Check out the whole Marcelle line at: www.marcelle.com

Lise Watier - make my heart sing every time a seasonal collection comes out - they are so clever and innovative and of course pretty! I am absolutely obsessed with the fragrance from the summer collection - Bora Bora - it smells sweet and delicious, just like summer! To make it even easier to get your Lise Watier fix, you can now order online - www.lisewatier.com

NeoStrata - comes out with the most innovative skin care products - just about any skin care concern or issue you might have, they have a product to fix it. My true exfoliating love is still their Skin Resurfacing Duo - the two step process gives you smooth skin worthy of a baby's butt! Find out more at www.neostrata.ca
Cover FX - really understands that there are more skin tones out there then most companies care to admit to and offer a really great range of options! I am in love with Natural FX Water Based Foundation these days, it is the perfect texture for hot, sticky summer days! Find all the info at www.coverfx.com
Dermaglow - has a fresh new look for their product line and I have been happily discovering their cleanser line!  I'll have a post on all of them soon but here is my fave cleanser right now the Exfoliating Cleanser, a gel cleanser which has been helping me deal with the summer oilies without drying out my skin! You can check out their website at www.dermaglow.ca
Annabelle - if you are looking for on-trend, colour cosmetics at a totally reasonable price point this is the place to go.  As a pale person I've tried a lot of really unsuitable bronzers and I always end up coming back to my Zebra Bronzer! Check out all their pretties at www.annabellecosmetics.com
Vasanti Cosmetics - not just a Canadian company but the products are even made here - you don't see that very often any more so I was happy to discover they aren't just Canadian products but GREAT Canadian products including this perfect shade of coral - Rockies Micronized Silky Blush!  Check out the whole Vasanti line at: http://vasanticosmetics.com/ca/

Is there anything more patriotic than makeup? I think not! What are you up to for Canada Day?

Cover FX Natural FX vs. GOSH Natural Touch - battle of the foundations part 2!

Last week's post was very light coverage foundations (if you missed it you can find it here) so this week I decided to try a couple that had a bit more coverage and moisture!

Natural FX Water Based Foundation SPF 15 - 30ml - I liked the idea of a moisturizing foundation that was water based so I tried the lightest colour in my shade range - E10.  I was a little worried because it seemed kind of pink when I first squeezed it out of the tube but it blended perfectly into my skin. It has more of a medium coverage so it was perfect for hiding the redness around my nose, I didn't even have to apply a concealer there like I normally would! Because it's a heavier coverage than I would normally wear I was concerned that it would feel heavy on my skin and give me the "foundation" feeling of which I am not a fan but not to worry, it's not the lightest thing I have ever felt on my skin but it was by no means uncomfortable.

VS

GOSH Natural Touch Foundation - 30 ml - is also a natural finish, moisturizing foundation which I tried in the lightest shade of 32 Pearl.  The colour is the tiniest bit too yellow for my skin which isn't glaringly obvious to anyone but me I expect! Again the coverage is heavier than what I'm used to but it feels very weightless on my skin.  It also covers well and I didn't need to use an extra concealer. The other thing I worried about with a heavier foundation was that it would settle into pores and lines but I didn't have this problem with either one of them which I'm attributing to the moisturizing formula!

This is a hard choice but I'm going to go with Cover FX - only because the colour was perfect while the GOSH was just slightly off.  As far as feel and quality, I would have no issue recommending either one of them so pick the one with the colour that is the closest match for you!

Tune in next Monday for the next battle, this time between Lancôme Teint Idole Fresh Wear and Lise Watier Teint Parfait 12 HRS Glam!

And be sure to check out Battle 1 - CoverGirl Nature Luxe vs. Maybelline Fit Me!

Has anyone else used the Cover FX and the GOSH, and were you able to choose?
