GlossyBox - beauty brought right to your door!

Germany's GlossyBox beauty subscription service has finally made it's way to Canada for your sampling pleasure! Working pretty much the same way the other sampler services do - they deliver 5 deluxe (and sometimes a special 6) samples to your door every month at a cost of $15.

February's inaugural box came packaged beautifully in pink and ribbons and chock full of some really great products. My preference when it comes to these services, is to get products I haven't tried from brands I know, or have at least heard of. And on that score, this box hit a home run!
Included in February's box were:

Ahava Mineral Hand Cream - sample, Elizabeth Grant Skin Care Moisturizing Stick - full size, Essie Nail Enamel in Neo Whimsical - full size, Oscar de la Renta Live in Love Body Lotion - sample, Elizabeth Arden Prevage Night Anti-Aging Restorative Cream - sample and Beauty So Clean Sanitizing Wipes and Mist - sample.

My particular loves from this box are the Ahava Hand Cream (so needed these days), the Elizabeth Grant Lip Balm and how can I not love the Essie polish - so pretty!

It will be interesting to see as the months go by if they can keep up this level of brand quality, I have my fingers crossed for them!

The service also encourages you to review the products you receive and to get your friends to drink the GlossyBox kool-aid. In return they reward you with GlossyDots - 20 for every product you review (up to 5 a month) and 200 for every friend who joins. When you reach 1,000 GlossyDots that month's box is coming your way free!

You can check out all the GlossyBox details and their blog at www.glossybox.ca.

Oscars' Red Carpet: A Snooze Fest.

Where are Rihanna and Lady Gaga when you need them? Tonight's red carpet was pretty conservative. Just like this year's Golden Globes, many actresses chose to wear black, gray, cream or tan colors.

You know I have mad love for Helen Mirren. Once again, she looked amazing in this grey Badgley Mishka number .

Cameron Diaz looked great in Oscar de la Renta

Demi Moore in Versace. I'm not loving this colour on her but the fit is amazing.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy. Probably the most fashion forward dress of the evening.

Robert Downey Jr.'s intro was so funny...I forgive him the sneakers.

I was going to say something nice about Kristen Stewart as this gown is way better than what she usually wears (perhaps she finally decided to hire a stylist) but her introduction tonight was ridiculously bad: she had no energy, no charisma and most of all she decided to clear her throat while presenting...charming. Ugh. I wonder how she managed to become an actress.

This Marchesa gown is quite atrocious.

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Dries Van Noten. This looks like an arts school project.

James Cameron's wife should get some tips from Helen Mirren. Her batwing arms need to be out of sight.

 Boring.

Oh Molly Ringwald, this is weird and cheap looking...it could well be an outfit from the mall.

Weekend Goodies: Magazines around The World

The sublime Marija Vujovic for Vogue UK November
Trends: Shoulder pads, studded belts, asymmetrical dresses

Honestly, I just needed an excuse to post these pictures, Marija looks incredible. And that's why I want to see more models on the covers of magazines and less actresses and singers, please (except if your name is Cate Blanchett).

Numero magazine in Japan (Anne-Sophie Monrad)
Trends: Lace, shoulder pads, over-the-knee boots and Louis Vuitton bunny ears

The annoying Lilly Allen photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for Elle Russia
I have to admit, Lilly looks good here with tousled hair, red lipstick and lots of Photoshop.

Cate Blanchett is on the cover of Vogue US for the December edition, looking incredible as usual.
She should get an Oscar every year, just because she's Cate Blanchett. In fact, the Oscars should be renamed the Cate Blanchett Awards.
