This Porsche 928 got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1989 Porsche 928 S4 was first sold in Glenview, Illinois and remained in the Chicago area with its original owner through 2009. The coupe was relocated to Indiana by a previous owner in summer 2016, purchased by the seller in Texas the following November, and used as a daily driver since. Power is from a 5.0L V8 mated to an automatic transaxle and a 2016 service included an ECU rebuild as well as a new timing belt, cam gears, motor mounts, water pump, Koni shocks, and more. Modifications include an aluminum radiator and custom exhaust system. This S4 is offered with service records to 2009, a clean Carfax report, and a Texas title.

A repaint in metallic grey was commissioned by a previous owner, and the finish shows some wear, chips, and small dings as well as a rust bubble at the bottom of the passenger quarter window. The seller notes that the bumpers appear slightly duller than the body and that the front spoiler has been re-secured since the photos were taken.

A ceramic tint was applied to the windows by the seller at a reported cost of $1k, and the headlamps have been upgraded. Stock 16″ wheels wear Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport tires. The car was detailed by OCD Detailing in November 2016. A new rear model decal is included to replace the painted-over original.

The Burgundy leather interior is photographed in detail to show wear in the front seats as well as damaged vinyl and an expanded bottom seal in the storage compartment. Cracks are noted on the instrument pod and at the top corner of the glove compartment, while a former phone mount left holes around the temperature sensor. The car came equipped with the following options:

  • 139 – Seat heating system, left
  • 158 – Blaupunkt Reno SQR 46 radio

  • 570 – Air conditioner with improved efficiency (rear A/C)

The 6-digit odometer shows 127k indicated miles, 6k of which were added by the seller during daily use. The temperature sensor bezel was replaced and a Kenwood head unit has been added but is noted as inoperative. A warning light is illuminated after the seller changed the right rear light bulb. Neither the sunroof or air conditioning system are currently working, the latter despite replacement of the center bellows.

The 5.0L DOHC V8 is paired to a 4-speed automatic transaxle with a factory locking differential. The seller sent the ECU out to Colin Jensen to be rebuilt after his purchase in November 2016, and had the car shipped to Sean Ratts of 928 Docs for service including:

  • New timing belt, Porken tensioner, water pump, and cam gears
  • Porken P-clamp installed to prevent driveline creep
  • New ignition monitoring bypass relay
  • Both coils replaced
  • New motor mounts
  • Fresh fuel lines
  • Replacement oil pump gear
  • New Koni Red shocks

Records show the previous owner had the intake refreshed as well as having the MAF sensor rebuilt at 928sRus, installing a race radiator from 928 Motorsports, and having the injectors overhauled by WitchHunter Performance. The air pump is disconnected, and the original exhaust system has been replaced with a custom H-pipe design with chrome outlets. The seller notes that the torque tube bearing is due for replacement.

A binder of maintenance records was shipped to the seller by a previous owner who spotted the car on a 928 Facebook page, and is included in the sale. Additional records date to 2009 and show the recent work performed under current ownership. Original owner’s manuals also come with the car.

The Carfax report shows no accident history and contains 16 mileage readings from November 1989 to late 2016. An AutoCheck report is also included. The car is financed through the seller’s credit union, and the balance of the loan will need to be paid off before transfer to the new owner.
