1991 BMW M3 Convertible
This 1991 BMW M3 is one of approximately 785 European-market convertibles built. It was imported into the US in 2016 and purchased by the owner the following year. Finished in Diamantschwarz Metallic over gray leather, the car is powered by a 2.3-liter S14 inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes 16″ basketweave wheels, adjustable headlight leveling, fog lights, heated front sport seats, and an onboard computer. The soft top was replaced in 2016, and service in 2024 included changing the oil, cleaning the fuel injectors, and replacing the fuel filter. This E30 M3 convertible is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a tool kit, a first-aid kit, a BMW Classic Certificate, and a clean Florida title in the owner’s name.
The open-top variant of the E30 M3 was introduced in mid-1988 and only sold in the European market. The cars were hand-assembled at the BMW Motorsport facility in Garching, Germany, and use the same bumpers, side skirts, and flared fenders as the coupe.
This is a relist after the vehicle sold on BaT in November 2024 but the sale was not completed due to extenuating circumstances. This was due to no fault of the car, and the winner’s participation on BaT has been restricted.
The car is finished in Diamantschwarz Metallic and was optioned with an automatic antenna and adjustable headlight leveling. The convertible top is power-operated and the seller notes that the top fabric was replaced in 2016.
The 16″ basketweave wheels feature BMW center caps and are mounted with 225/45 Dunlop Direzza ZII tires showing 2016 date codes. The M3 convertible shared its suspension with the coupe but used different shock valving and spring rates to accommodate its increased curb weight.
The cabin is upholstered in gray leather and features heated manually adjustable front sport seats and individual rear seats. Amenities include an onboard computer, a BMW Bavaria stereo, rear headrests, and power windows, mirrors, and locks.
Instrumentation includes a 260-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 80k kilometers (~50k miles), approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.3-liter S14 inline-four was factory rated at 212 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Service in 2024 included changing the oil, replacing the fuel filter, and cleaning the fuel injectors.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential.
