Dogon People Dancing in Mali

The Dogon are an ethnic group living in the central plateau region of the country of Mali, in the West of the Continent of Africa.  They are best known for their religious traditions, their mask dances, wooden sculpture and their architecture. The past century has seen significant changes in the social organization, material culture and beliefs of the Dogon, partly because Dogon country is one of Mali's major tourist attractions.

Mali is a landlocked country in West Africa. Its has a population of around 14.5 million. The capital is Bamako.

At 1,242,248 square kilometres (480,000 sq mi), including the disputed region of Azawad, Mali is the world's 24th-largest country and is comparable in size to South Africa or Angola. Most of the country lies in the southern Sahara Desert.

The Tuareg are a people with a traditionally nomadic lifestyle. They are the principal inhabitants of the Sahara Desert in the interior of North Africa.

There is an estimated total number of 1.2 million people who speak the Tuareg language.
