Another short post today, catching up with the previews that were shown off several weeks ago now! A lot has happened In these last few weeks it's been difficult to keep.uo.with everything that's been going on. Anyway, this is one of the things I have been most hyped about out of the previews we saw. I have always wanted a Zone Mortalis type of setting and have spent many hours trawling eBay, shapeways and other sites looking for affordable walls to make a board with and now GW have released there own version.

A few bits of scatter terrain
These pieces are the last of my terrain that needs painting that I am aware of, like I said above, I'm sure there are other little bits around but don't know where. Its good to finally have all the terrain painted and ready for the tabletop.

Finished terrain
One thing I forgot to photograph or mention, are the small bridge sections. I painted these up as well and you can just see them on the edges of the photos of the fort sections. Both fairly simple but with some basic wood effect on the planks that make up the middle sections. I'd doesn't look very good i the pictures but it's quite nice in hand.

Holiday plans
So with being in stuck in the house for a week or more, I decided on a plan to get my Kill Zone Octarius terrain painted up. No this plan doesn't involve me painting much, one piece of terrain as it turns out, no, the plan involves getting the small people in the house to paint them. Now, the beauty of this plan is several fold. Firstly I don't have to paint the majority of them, secondly there is no wrong way to paint the terrain, so I don't have to worry about how its painted and lastly, it's keeping the kids entertained.
We sprayed the terrain black with some cheap car spray paint, maybe not as completely as needed for main models but more than enough for basic terrain prices.
The only issue was the uneven number of terrain pieces, so I've opted to paint up the oil storage, as it's the only odd piece and only singular type of terrain.
In addition, we sprayed up two hellbrutes, one each for the kids to paint as well, again one each. The original one is for the young man and the modified one is for the young lady.
I'll post up pictures when their finished with them but I'm taking a completely hands off approach so it will be interesting to see the results. That's if blogger eventually allows me to post this, as apparently it violated the guidelines, how I'm not sure but I'll keep trying to get this posted.

New terrain peice
I've had this piece for a while, I just haven't managed to get it painted until now. I painted it as a bit of a palette cleanser, although it wasn't much of a pallette cleanser as it used all the same colours as I was using on my other models! The only difference was that it's significantly bigger that the Primaris marines I'm currently painting.
As you can see I've used the same colours as my Eagle Knights chapter, to help tie it in to some of the games I'll play. It also helps it stand out as a sort of centre piece terrain model on the board as it's very different from all the other terrain pieces, which are mostly quite dull in colour.
I spent a bit of time on the interior, trying to make it look more used and less like just a lump of metal. I even added a little bit of "graffiti" on the inside, making it look like it's been used as a little bunker or staging point for imperial troops.
Lastly I added the blood splatter details, which add to the use as a staging post, with the blood splatter being either from defending to point or dealing with the wounded. I had considered adding bother details, that might work as discarded kit and equipment but decided to just leave it as it was and not overly complicate things, as I like my terrain to add to the models and story not take centre stage in it.
Now, I know that a lot of people will notice the print lines and markings on the model. This is because it's a 3d printed model I got off a fellow club mate who had printed them as test pieces for his new machine. I have a few barrels as well that I still have to paint but they are for another time. I may have to look at getting a few more pieces to go with this, maybe a fallen dread or similar, maybe something like these;

More terrain
Right, this will be the last lot of terrain for a while, I promise. I still have all the MDF buildings to spray and I'm hopeful I can get them done over the summer months when I can spray in the garage without freezing to death, although the new garage door should help with that, when it's fitted that is.
Anyway, here are the new terrain. First up the loading system. This is using bits from the Mantic Terrain Crate I got a while ago but modifying the prices with some plasticard and tubing. The original set had the top sections sitting on sections of the large pipes, so I had to build some sort of support structure. I have tried a few things over the years I had this set but none have worked out how I wanted. This however I think works rather well. The solid sections of in the middle work as line of sight blocking terrain and hid even the tallest primaris models.
I tried to make them look like concrete blocks, sort of like the precast slabs that you get, with support columns at each end. There is one section that is supposed to look like a wood plank repair section and there is the green mould\gunge\ooze or whatever it is. This is there to add some extra colour to the otherwise dark prices but also to his some truly epic gaps in the construction. Some of the panels were not well fitted at all, a sign of both my inability to scratch build and also my haste when building these things. Overall though I think these look really effective.
Next up are some more pipes, just little ones this time. These are not really much use in terms of game terrain but are something else to add to the table to take up some of the open ground to make it look less open. Very basic in construction but a nice little addition to the terrain pool.
Lastly here are some pipe storage rack type things. These were built to add some addition container sized terrain features, that when placed with the two containers can form a large blocking price in the centre of the board. Simply made from some plumbing pipe I had spare and a few bits of plasticard left over from the other builds, painted to look like concrete pipe. Oh and there is the small pipe rack as well, again just bashed together with left over pipe and plasticard.
I still haven't found the rest of the crates and also some of the other bits from the Terrain Crate, which I had completely forgotten about until I looked back at the previous post from when I bought the terrain crate. I really have no idea where some of these pieces have disappeared to, hopefully I'll come across them at some point, so I can add them to the collection.

Combat patrol terrain
After playing a few games with my son a few weeks ago, before I broke my let, I decided it was time to actually paint up some of my terrain. The majority of my terrain in MDF buildings and will really require spraying up with rattle cans, which I have in the garage. I think I showed a couple of test buildings a while ago. For the recent games however, I have been using some.more industrial prices, as we're only playing 500 point games and infantry models only, so no requirement to have big line of sight blocking terrain.
I plan on gathering enough terrain to fill this box and no more, making it easy to transport and store. I can combine this with my other terrain should I need some bigger pieces.
