이 유전자는 ATF 서브패밀리와 bZIP(basic region leucine ziper) 패밀리에 속하는 활성화 전사인자를 코드한다.그것은 성장, 생존, 그리고 다른 세포 활동과 관련된 하류 표적 유전자의 발현을 조절함으로써 세포 생리적 과정에 영향을 미친다.이 단백질은 세린 63에서 세린/트레오닌 키나아제, cAMP 의존성 단백질 키나제 A, 칼모듈린 의존성 단백질 키나제 I/II, 마이트겐 및 스트레스 활성화 단백질 키나제 및 사이클린 의존성 키나제 3(cdk-3)에 의해 인산화된다.그것의 인산화 작용은 그것의 활성화와 전사 활동을 강화시키고, 세포 형성을 [5]강화한다.
