A incompatibilidade entre a desnutrição perinatal e uma nutrição adequada durante o desenvolvimento aumenta o risco de aparecimento precoce de doenças não transmissíveis na vida adulta. Todavia, acredita-se que a atividade física materna possa atenuar estas consequências. O presente estudo teve como objetivo avaliar os efeitos do treinamento físico durante a gestação na evolução ponderal, circunferência abdominal, glicemia e colesterolemia de filhotes adultos submetidos à desnutrição perinatal. Ratas Wistar (n = 12) foram divididas em quatro grupos: controle (C, n = 3), treinada (T, n = 3), desnutrida (D, n = 3) e treinada desnutrida (T+D, n = 3). This study is part of an ongoing program to develop a new CF/Flax/Epoxy bone fracture plate to be used in orthopedic trauma applications. The occurrence of menopause is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events, and this has partly been attributed to the decline in circulating levels of estrogen. A lignan complex rich in the plant lignan secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG) was isolated from flaxseed. SDG is metabolized by the colonic microflora to the mammalian lignans enterodiol and enterolactone and is hypothesized to be cardioprotective due to their structural similarity to estrogen. This prospective study involved supplementing 18 normal dogs with flax seed (FLX) and sunflower seed (SUN) and evaluating their effects on skin and hair coat condition scores and serum polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) concentrations. Skin and hair coat were evaluated in a double‐blinded fashion using a numeric scoring system and serum PUFA concentrations were determined. Our hypothesis was that changes in serum PUFA concentrations are associated with improvements in skin and hair coat and that serum PUFA would provide an objective method for making dietary fatty acid supplement recommendations. Although a numerical improvement was found in hair coat quality in both groups, this improvement was not sustained beyond 28 days. Breast milk insufficiency is one of mothers’ main reasons to stop breastfeeding in the first six to eight weeks after birth. Causes lie behind insufficient milk production are preterm birth, illness of the mother or the child, mother-baby separation, re-lactation after a prolonged suspension, indirect lactation (breast pump or manual milk expression), anxiety, fatigue and emotional stress. Four ruminally fistulated primiparous lactating Holstein cows were assigned to a 4 × 4 Latin square design to determine the effects of the site of administration (rumen or abomasum) of flax oil and flax hulls on diet digestibility and milk fatty acid profile of dairy cows. Ruminal microbiota plays an important role in the conversion of plant lignans into mammalian lignans. The main mammalian lignan present in the milk of dairy cows fed flax products is enterolactone (EL). The objectives of the present study were to investigate the effects of abomasal infusion of flax oil on the metabolism of flax lignans and concentrations of EL in biological fluids of dairy cows. A total of six rumen-cannulated dairy cows were assigned within a 2 × 3 factorial arrangement of six treatments utilising flax hulls (0 and 15·9 % of DM) and abomasal infusion of flax oil (0, 250 and 500 g/d). Significance Fungal and oomycete pathogens cause devastating diseases in crop plants and facilitate infection by delivering effector molecules into the plant cell. The secreted effector protein AvrM from flax rust, a fungal pathogen that infects flax plants, internalizes into host cells in the absence of the pathogen, binds to phosphoinositides, and is recognized directly by the resistance protein M in flax to initiate effector-triggered immunity. We describe the crystal structure of AvrM and identify functionally important surface regions in the protein, which advances our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying how effectors enter host cells and how they are detected by the plant immune system.
