Up close and personal with animal teeth!

Hello Everyone!
Who knew that studying animal teeth would be so engaging???  We had a blast today reviewing what animals eat and how their teeth fit with their diet.  I hope you have picked up our new favorite book! "What If You Had Animal Teeth?"  It describes the nonfiction and fiction fun of animal teeth!
We wrote about which teeth we would want to have yesterday. Scroll down to see that post.  Today we got up close and personal with animal teeth.  I love collecting fun things for our science center.  I have a bull skull which includes many of his teeth, a small deer jawbone, and a good friend just gave me an elk skull with teeth.  We had an amazing time examining each one.  Have you ever wiggled a bull's tooth?? :)  Tooo Cooool!!
Anyway, we also got to do our self portraits showing off which animal teeth we would like to have.  They turned out waaaaaaaaaay cute!!  The kids had so much fun!  Take a look!
Loved that this little one wore her kitty cat sweater because she wrote about wanting to have cat teeth! :)

Did you know snake teeth fold back into little pockets when they close their mouths?? Hmmmm...

Open wide everyone!! Here we come!!
Anyway, the patterns for this precious activity are in this unit HERE!! :)

Thanks for stopping by our little toothy part of the world, our little first grade classroom! We appreciate you!!
Now off to work on report cards for these little darlings!! They have each grown so much these last nine weeks! WOW!!
Can't wait!
Joyfully!

what and How animals Eat---And a free Geometry Unit!

Hello Everyone!
We had so much fun today learning about animal eating habits and dental tips!  After reading a couple of our new favorite books, and singing a new song on this topic, we created a quick anchor about what kind of animal teeth we would like to have. We began a written expression response to this same idea and tomorrow we will create our self portraits with animal teeth!  Can't wait!!

I fixed a couple of typos if you already have the unit.  Please redownload.

On another note, this next unit is for my sweet teacher friends who have geometry coming up in math!  We start next week learning about plane and solid figures. Our math book does not sufficiently cover this topic, so I decided to work hard to come up with some engaging activities that fit more precisely with our objectives.  The unit ended up being over 60 pages long with lots of fun activities, poems, math tub and extension ideas. There are a couple of craft connections and some edible projects as well.  Here are a couple of pics.

Some mini posters are included

An example of a math tub activity
There are 3 - way match games for both the plane figures and the solid figures.

If this is something you think you might be able to use, click here for your printables!
Unit also includes patterns for pattern blocks, some pattern block pictures, and opportunities for kids to create their own designs. Kids love and learn through using pattern blocks.
I truly hope you can use some of this.  I know I can't wait to get started!!

Til next time, thanks for taking time out of your busy day to take a peek at ours! We appreciate you!!
Joyfully!
