Supercharged 383-Powered Ford Model A Roadster Hot Rod 4-Speed
This Ford roadster hot rod was built more than two decades ago utilizing a fiberglass body mounted to a custom-fabricated boxed steel frame. Power comes from a supercharged 383ci Chevrolet V8 with a Pete Jackson Gear Drive, B&M camshaft, TRW pistons, and Holley Brawler 750-cfm carburetor. The engine is linked to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9” rear end, and the car rides on Boyd Coddington 15” wheels with a dropped front axle, rear coilovers, and front disc brakes. Finished in yellow with painted multicolor graphics, the car features a ’32-style grille, a rear roll pan, a removable soft top, coach doors, and tunneled teardrop taillights. Inside, beige leather and cloth upholstery is accompanied by a Budnik steering wheel, a tilting column, a Hurst shifter, VDO gauges, and an Alpine cassette stereo with Blaupunkt speakers. This custom Ford hot rod is now offered with a build sheet and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name that refers to the car as a 1929 Ford.
The fiberglass body is mounted to a custom-fabricated steel frame constructed using Just A Hobby boxed frame rails. A Wescott’s ’32-style grille surround was added along with a rear roll pan from Magoo’s Street Rods before the car was painted in yellow with stylized flame graphics along each side. The coach doors have concealed hinges, and further details include a beige removable soft top, a chrome grille insert, tri-bar headlights, round side mirrors, and tunneled teardrop taillights mounted in the trunk lid.
Polished 15” Boyds wheels are mounted with 155-series Firestone F-560 tires up front and 31×10.5” BFGoodrich Radial Sport Truck T/A units out back. The front drop axle is supported by a four-link setup and a transverse leaf spring, while the rear suspension features ladder bars and adjustable coilovers. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums, and the booster is mounted below the floor.
The cabin is trimmed in beige leather and cloth with color-coordinated lap belts and carpets. An Alpine AM/FM/cassette head unit and Blaupunkt speakers are mounted below the seat, and a Hurst shifter is topped by a billet knob. The rear-hinged doors are equipped with safety latches.
The color-keyed Budnik steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column and sits ahead of VDO instrumentation consisting of a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, voltage, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 8k miles, approximately 400 of which were added under current ownership.
The trunk is trimmed to complement the cabin.
The 383ci V8 was built utilizing a 350ci Chevrolet V8 engine block that was bored 0.030” over and fitted with a 400-specification crankshaft and connecting rods. Induction is through a Holley Brawler 750-cfm carburetor and a B&M supercharger. Additional components include a Pete Jackson Gear Drive, B&M Street Charger camshaft, TRW pistons, Manley valves, and COMP Cams valve springs and rocker arms.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9” rear end with 3.56:1 gearing.
