When it comes to Chinese styled video slots, I often times roll my eyes. The problem is that these games are oftentimes just are carbon copies of each other, bringing nothing spectacular or different when it comes to game features. Making matters worse is the fact that there are so many of these games that they blend together. Unfortunately, Microgaming's Emperor of the Sea slot manages to check all of these boxes. It's an unoriginal and uninspiring, and I think it's one that you can probably manage to skip, although some decent bonus features do make it seem a bit better than its brethren.

Emperor of the Sea is a 5 reel, 88 payline video slot that's set against a sea backdrop done in an old school Asian art style. This is probably the best graphic in the game, as the rest seem to be a re-hash of old slot symbols (9, 10, J, Q, K, A) as well as ships, koi fish, turtle statue, jug, and wish granting dragon.

The game's bonus features aren't terrible, as you get cascading wins, free spins, spreading wilds, stacked wilds, and standard wilds. The game also has a posted return to player (RTP) percentage of 95.6%, which is average, but not great for a video slot online.

The overall experience here isn't fantastic. You'll find that the animations and symbols in the game are an awful lot like the countless others out there. The game just feels like a re-tread. I've been here before, and while the features do a pretty good job of bringing something new, it just isn't enough. I think that if you're on the lookout for a new Microgaming slot to play, you can do better elsewhere. Of course, if you're a fan of Asian inspired games, you could end up enjoying this free slot before deciding to play for money.
