A guy in Houston went to Kansas to find a rough Talladega sitting in a shed, it had no engine or transmission, and he had to bring his own wheels and tires to even make it a roller. But he then took it to North Carolina and bought a cup car, and then put the best of both together

He then set his target as the C/Classic Fuel Altered (C/CFALT) class and its record of 243.406 mph. Turning back to North Carolina and NASCAR surplus, Wilson contacted NASCAR teams to buy used engines that were no longer up-to-date with cutting-edge technology.

The engines, similar to the ones you’d find in a Cup car circa 2008–12, have a limited lifespan when they’re run on the edge for 500 miles of WOT racing.

“Engines to those guys are kinda like tires—they just get another one,” Wilson says. He relies on an engine builder in NASCAR country.

An ice chest in the car pumps cold water through the intake-mounted charge cooler and also through a fuel cooler.

Wilson’s goal is to get intake air temperature down to 70 degrees and fuel temperature down to 60 degrees in order to optimize combustion.

The ram-air scoop helps by slightly pressurizing the intake air. As best he can tell from dyno testing and simulations, the scoop adds 5–6 hp; the chiller is good for 10-12 hp
.
The engines are based on a Roush block and use surplus NASCAR crankshafts and a slight overbore, to displace about 366 cu in.

Wilson has changed the cam specs to broaden the torque curve and upped the compression to 13.7:1.

The engine run at 2020 Speed Week measured 862 hp at 8600 rpm. Wilson shifts the car with a Jerico five-speed, and has a 75 hp shot of NOS

So far, the cars has made it to five Speed Weeks at Bonneville.
The first year they ran 216 mph;
the next, they ran 226.
In 2018 they ran 239 mph
Salt conditions were poor for Speed Week 2019
in 2020 they returned with some tweaks that they thought would put them over their 243.406-mph goal. Instead, they took a step backward, running in the low 230s.

Finally, someone brought a Talladega to SEMA!

and before you comment on the Poteet Trepanier Talledega, well, that wasn't a real Talladega... that was a created work of art that looked a lot like one, but isn't... as it wasn't ever made by Ford. It was all Troy Trepanier as I recall.

Uh oh... Ford fans are looking to start a fight with this infographic, it's complete bullshit

https://www.facebook.com/groups/321577158048111/

Jay brings up a very good point, this info is bullshit... and obviously made by a Ford fan. Notice, there is no Chevy.

Also, the Superbird was not made in 1969, therefore, it had half the number of years to race as the Ford. So why was it included in this... probably to make the Ford look better.

Also, the Ford was raced at EVERY track, the Mopars only at a handful. So why compare them at all? To make Ford look better.

Obviously the only real honest comparison would be for each race where all three competed

Good call Jay. I wasn't even thinking when I saw this about all the matters you brought up...

Why did the Talladega that Troy Trepanier made for George Poteet show up in this one shot, and not get driven in the movie?

I know that it's ready for racing, it participated in the 2013 Optima Challenge

since neither of these photos shows you a good look at the car, here is a good sideview

As long as I'm on the topic, if you've seen the newest Fast and Furious, what is your favorite of the 3? Mine is 5.
