Armour's Star Ham - Easter Meat Stamp

A metal meat stamp featuring Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Dates from the 1938 Armour's Star Ham advertising campaign. Measures 2" long.

This image has been flopped in Photoshop and reads, "Amour's Star Ham - For Easter Dinner! Render with the real ham flavor!" See the Easter display in previous post.

Back side is blank.

Armour's Star Ham - Easter Store Display

In an earlier Archive entry, we saw store displays for the 1938 Armour's Star Ham Snow White advertising campaign. Below is a special "Easter Greetings" display that would have been used leading up to the holiday.

The cardboard piece measures approximately 35" x 16". Imprint reads, "Litho. U.S.A. Magill-Weinsheimer Co., Chicago - ©1938 Walt Disney Enterprises."

Also see a Snow White Star Ham metal stamp in the next Archive entry, plus an Armour recipe book in an earlier post.

1938 Armour & Co. "Snow White" Recipe Book

In 1938, Armour & Company--an American producer of canned meats--published a Snow White recipe book in London, England. With a total of 43 pages (not including covers), it showcases a myriad of traditional-style meals--all incorporating Armour's meat products, of course. The book also contains a few nice-looking vintage illustrations.

In an introductory story in which Snow White converses with the Dwarfs, Dopey actually speaks "for the first and last time."

Each of the Dwarfs have their own favorite recipe.

The recipes continued on page 18-21 but without illustrations.

Snow and the Dwarfs appear on the centerfold of the book along with a can of corned beef.

There's lots more recipes from page 24-39, then promotions for Amour's products close out the book.

Rear cover.

Illustrations and text copyright Disney/Armour, 1938. Posted here for historical documentation purposes only.
Special thanks to Greg Philip of A Lost Film for sharing these images from his collection.

Armour's Star Ham Advertising Campaign

The Armour's Star Ham Snow White campaign from 1938 was just one of a myriad of promotions thought up by Disney marketing genius Kay Kamen. It included in-store displays, magazine advertisements, and free collectible stamps.

"Snow White" Star Bacon die-cut cardboard store countertop standee (6" x 8").

"Happy" Star Jubilee Ham countertop standee (6" x 7").

"Doc" Star Ham countertop standee (6" x 7").

Cardboard store display (34" x 30.5). The standee originally had a man in a chef's hat next to Snow White. See a similar Easter display in another post.

Armour and Company giveaway "Poster Stamps" were distributed by grocers. A coupon good for free stamps could be found in the magazine ads (below).

Ladies Home Journal "Meal of the Month", 1938. The same ad was seen in other periodicals including American Weekly magazine, 1938.

The story on reverse side of ad is a sci-fi with the title "Ark of Fire--A story of the year 1980" by John Hawkins.
