This Porsche 993 GT2 got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1995 Porsche 911 GT2 was ordered new by Jochen Rohr and is said to be the first example prepared for competition by Porsche’s racing department. The car was initially campaigned at the 1995 24 Hours of Daytona, where it was driven by Rohr, David Murry, Bernd Mayländer, and Hurley Haywood to a second-in-class and fourth overall finish. It was later raced at SCCA events at Phoenix, Mosport, Lime Rock, Road America, Trois-Rivières, and Sears Point before being retired due to a crash at the 1996 24 Hours of Daytona. The car was repaired in 1997 and is finished in yellow with #2 Exxon/Jochen Rohr livery over a stripped interior with a single Momo Corse racing seat trimmed in red cloth. Power comes from a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six mated to a six-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes an Andial aluminum intercooler, a 100-liter fuel cell, anti-lock brakes, a TAGTronic ECU, 18″ BBS multi-piece center-lock wheels, riveted fender flares, a biplane rear wing, a Matter roll cage, a fire-suppression system, a Sparco safety harness, and a quick-release MOMO steering wheel. Acquired by the current owner in 2022, this 993 GT2 is now offered as part of the WOB Porsche 75th Anniversary Race Car Collection on dealer consignment in Thousand Oaks, California, with period photos, Porsche North America technical data and press releases, recent service records, and a bill of sale.

The 993 GT2 was developed by Porsche to meet homologation requirements for FIA GT racing. The car was based on the 993 Turbo, but utilized a rear-wheel drive layout as well as an alloy rear subframe with a double-wishbone suspension setup, riveted fender flares, an aluminum hood and doors, and a “banana” biplane rear wing. Additional factory weight-saving measures led to the car weighing approximately 485 pounds less than the standard 993 Turbo.

This example is finished in yellow and retains its 1996 SCCA #2 Exxon/Jochen Rohr livery. Additional equipment includes front brake cooling ducts, Cup-style mirrors, cowl-mounted fuel and electrical cutoff switches, an external oil filler, and polycarbonate side and rear windows. The front spoiler was repaired in December 2022.

The staggered-width 18″ BBS center-lock wheels feature magnesium centers and are mounted with 265/645 front and 305/645 rear Pirelli slicks that were installed in November 2022. The 993 GT2 featured a revised suspension that was 20mm lower than the contemporary Turbo model. Stopping power is provided by an anti-lock system featuring an electronic-hydraulic high-pressure servo, red-painted four-piston calipers, and 322mm ventilated and drilled rotors. A brake fluid flush was performed in September 2022.

The Alcantara-wrapped MOMO steering wheel is mounted on a quick-release hub ahead of a central 7,600-rpm tachometer, a 300-km/h speedometer, a clock, and combination gauges. The six-digit odometer shows less than 12k kilometers (~7,400 miles), approximately 50 of which were added under current ownership.
