Matt watched the scene unfold with a quiet fondness. At least now, his brothers were no longer upset with each other. For a brief moment, he felt a flicker of happiness inside—an emotion he hadn’t truly experienced in so long. It was as if, after months or even years, he had finally found some semblance of peace.
But then, suddenly, that light began to fade. Even though his brothers were right there, within arm’s reach, they started to feel like distant memories. It was as if the fragile hope that had once softened his heart was slowly dissolving. Thorny vines began to coil around it, tightening and constricting with every beat, their sharp points digging into the very thing that kept him alive. For a moment, he had believed the pain might subside, even if only briefly.
But it seemed… that was not the case.
