글루탐산염 수용체, 이온방성 카이네이트 3은 인간에서 GRIK3 유전자에 의해 암호화된 단백질이다.^[5]^[6]

이 유전자는 리간드 게이트 이온 채널군에 속하는 단백질을 암호화한다.GRIK4 또는 GRIK5 중 하나와 조화될 수 있어 이질 수용체를 형성할 수 있으며 중추신경계의 많은 시냅스에서 흥분성 신경전달물질 역할을 한다.mRNA의 RNA 편집이 보고되었다.^[6]
