Based on the excellent series of fantasy books, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, Game of Thrones has become one of the hottest television shows in the world since it debuted in its television form on HBO a few years back. The cloak and dagger story transports viewers to Westeros, a world where backstabbing and bloodthirsty royal families fight for control of the Iron Throne.
Microgaming has come to the party to gain the licensing rights of Game of Thrones for online casinos, while it appears that Aristocrat has the license for land casino versions of the property. The games from the two developers are entirely different, despite the fact that they are based on the same series. Microgaming has gone out and developed a game completely devoid of the characters or footage from the show apart from the introductory video, and it certainly shows here. The bonus features in the game are split between four houses from the stories, choosing between Stark (yay!), Targaryen, Lannister (Boooo!), and Baratheon. Despite the disappointment of not seeing the major characters from the show, and all the potential creative bonus rounds that could have entailed, the game plays quite well and the choice of free spins rounds is good. I'll keep this spoiler free, but If you're not one to normally play the gamble feature after one of your wins, then you should make an exception for Game of Thrones as the feature in this slot is actually quite creative. In fact it is probably the best gamble feature I have seen on a slot machine.
Despite the big name license, the graphics and sound are average, and the lack of characters from the show saps some of the fun that you would find if the game featured graphics and sound taken straight from the show. Still, there are some semblances of the show in here, including the show's logo and the crests of the various families. If you are looking for a chance to get your hands on a slot inspired by the Game of Thrones series and don't mind the fact that the game is lacking some serious details related to the franchise, then Game of Thrones is a game you should definitely consider.
It is also worth noting that this game is available in two different guises - a more "traditional" 15 payline machine and a 243 ways game where all possible payline combinations pay a win. If you don't know which style you prefer you can try them both, but keep in mind that despite the potential for more frequent payouts, the 243 way version of the game has a significantly lower RTP percentage than the 15 payline version. The 15 line game has a RTP of 96.4%, while the 243 ways version only pays back 94.9%. That is enough of a difference for me to recommend that you should always play the 15 line version.

This game is a colossal missed opportunity. I can only assume that Microgaming was unable to license any characters from the show as there are none whatsoever in this game. Its such a shame and makes it look like they slapped it together over a weekend.

I agree that the game would be more interesting if there were any characters from the tv show which I absolutely love. But I do enjoy the design, the scatters design is smart. I have had some incredible wins, around 2000x bet on Lannister spins so I think this game can be super rewarding.
I never thought about this Ed, but you're right, i think is the only slot game with a movie name without a single character. But i like the game anyway, when it was launched i played it a lot and i remember i had some very good wins. The 243 ways is not my favorite but this game is is better on this system
Yes, graphics side is really poor here and you cant feel a soul of that great tv series. But thsi game is one of my favorite because it pays very great. After Immortal Romance it's the best from Microgaming for me to expect big wins. And i hit them very often enough. Of course i dont wanna say that i hit them 50% of my gaming sessions or something like that, but really often comparing to other games:)
