COOKING STOVE 0R RANGE (Application filed Apr. 6, 1898 YHE Noam: PETERS 00.. PNDTO-L|YHQ.. wnmNoToN, n. c.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR K. BEOKWVITH, OF DOWAGIAO, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO FRED E.
. LEE, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A COOKING STOVE OR RANGE.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ARTHUR K. BECKWITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Dowagiac, in the county of Cass and State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Cooking Stove or Range, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a design for a cooking stove or range.
The invention is illustrated in the accomanying drawing, which presents a perspec= ive view of the stove constructed in accordance with my design.
As shown in the drawing,- the leading fea ture of my design is more particularly the peculiar configuration and ornamentation of the various portions of the stove.
The stove shown rests 011 a rectangular base without legs, the same being given the appearance of a heavy hand or strap at that point. The main body A of the stove is substantially parallelepiped in form, the top projecting as a flange beyond the sides and ends of the same. The corners are finished by bars having a twisted appearance, like twisted bars of wrought-iron, giving to it what I denominate a wrought-iron effect. The ends are made plain, while the front of the stove is ornamented, as appears in the drawing. The door or doors G of the fire-box and ash-pit are constructed and have the appearance of a frame, with ornamentation at the center, as clearly appears in the drawing. The main-oven door E is provided at its middle portion with a broad name-plate, as shown, and is also provided with a border, 011 which is placed an ornament having the appearance of a twisted bar of wrought-iron, as clearly appears in the drawing. The door F to the lower warming oven or closet is narrower than the main door, is finished with the nameplate, as shown, and has also in the border around the same ornaments appearing like twisted bars of wrought-iron.- Secured detachably to theend of the range is the reser-- voir D, which has on its edges an ornament having the appearance of a twisted bar of wrought-iron. The cover projects and corresponds to the top of the body portion. On the plain end of the reservoir is an ornament having the appearance of a crane constructed of twisted bars of wrought-iron.- The ornament is hinged to the reservoir and forms a cover for printed instructions, which appear on the adverse side. The back of the stove is supported by two end pieces artistically ex= panded and curved at the tops, the borders of which are also furnished with an ornament having the appearance of a twisted bar of wrought-iron. The warming-oven above is finished on its upper edge with a border having an irregular shell effect. The door to this warming-oven is plain with the exception of the ornamental handles, as shown. The lower front border of the warming-oven is ornamented, a portion of the ornament having the appearance of twisted bars of wroughtiron. Suitable scrolls and ornamentations are-provided for the plain portion of the back and which have the appearance of twisted wrought-iron work.
It will be observed that the outlines ofthe stove are formed of ornaments having the ap pearance of twisted bars of wrought metal and that in an article of the kind this is highly artistic and pleasing in its efiect.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a cook stove or range as herein shown and described.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal in the presence of two witnesses.
ARTHUR K. BECKWITII. [L- 8.]
