Be it known that I, J oHN J. GEAvEs, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York,

have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cooking Stoves or Ranges, of which the following is a specification.

My new and original design has for its object to ornament and improve the appearance xo of a cooking stove or range.

The design is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which* Figure lis a perspective View of a cooking stove or range embodying the design, and

15 Fig. 2 is an end view of the doors at the front end of the stove above the hearth-plate.

The leading and characteristic features of my design are the ornamentation of the stove as a whole and of the separate features or zo parts of such stove, as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

The base A, comprising the legs and the skirt between the legs, is richly ornamented, the upper portions of the legs being expanded z 5 and provided upon their two exposed sides with volute ornaments 2. Between the legs the skirting is ornamented with an elaborate volute and foliated design 3.

The oven-door B is exteriorly ornaniented 3o with a volute and foliated design, which is worked out to cover practically the entire eX- posod face of the door, except the panel porl tion 4E, over which it is usual to place the orl namental name-plate.

The door O at the end of the fire-box is or- 35 nalnented, as represented in Fig. 1. The side plate D of the Water-reservoir at the rear end of the stove is covered with a design in which the volute is a characteristic feature. The edge or rim of the hearth E is extended rear- 4o ward below the door O and is there ornamented by a volute and foliated ornament. The side plate of the stove below the rim of the hearth is ornamented at 5 with a foliated design.

The bracket or frame E', which supports the high shelf F, is ornamental in outline, as indicated in Fig. l, and has .its surface provided with a design the characteristic features of which are the shell-like ornaments sur- 5o rounded by foliated designs. Above the top shelf theresis an ornamental top piece 6.

The doors G and H at the front end of the stove and situated above the hearth-plate E are ornamented as indicated in Fig. 2.
