Filed Oct. 15, 1957, Ser. No. 690,237
1 Claim. (Cl. 312-207) This invention relates to tooth brush holders and more specifically to a holder of a type attached to the under side of a shelf. The tooth brush holder is attached by two clips (or clamps), furnished with said holder, to a shelf inside a medicine cabinet or any shelf of similar thickness which would provide a convenient location for a tooth brush holder.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a more sanitary holder for a tooth brush, inasmuch as the bristle end of the tooth brush is enclosed within the holder when holder is properly attached to shelf. The tooth brush rests on two elevated platforms, surrounded by three channels, into which the moisture from the tooth brush can drain and evaporate.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder of the above character which is simple and sturdy in construction and which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
A further object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder of the above character that is adapted to etnciently utilize waste space under a shelf within a medicine cabinet or under a shelf mounted on a wall adjacent to a wash basin.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder which can be quickly and conveniently clamped to shelves of different thickness and which sup ports a tooth brush so that neither the holder or tooth brush obstruct or interfere with the accessibility of the respective shelf.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder whereby the tooth brush can be easily and quickly removed from the holder and conveniently and quickly replaced into the holder after use.
A still further object of the invention is' to provide a tooth brush holder of the above mentioned character that can be readily and easily removed for cleaning so that it can be maintained in a sanitary condition.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a tooth brush holder of the above mentioned character which will provide a separate holder for each tooth brush, each holder being located below a separate shelf or in a separate place.
Above mentioned tooth brush holder invention consists of a plastic or metal case and two metal attaching clips. It will be described in further detail with the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. l is a perspective view of the tooth brush holder case.
Fig. 2 is a front view of the tooth brush holder with the tooth brush in place.
Fig. 3 is a top view of the tooth brush holder case.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view showing the tooth brush holder attached to a shelf by means of the clips.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view showing elevated platforms and the surrounding channels.
Referring now to the drawings, the invention comprises a case 6 which is made of plastic or metal or other suitable material, either 'transparent or opaque or in any i The case 6 has a back wall 7 which is' flatand" Y color. extends thefull length ofth e case 6. The case ,6 has a front wall 8 which extends from the left end 12 to approximately half the length of the case 6. vThe remaining I which encloses the case 6 from back 7 to front 8 and.
from top to bottom 9 except for a generous opening allowing the tooth brush handle to protrude from the case 6 permitting easy withdrawal of the tooth brush -16 from the case 6. Both the left end 12 and the right end 13 have a flange 1-4 protruding outwardly, horizontally, from the case 6 at the top of the case 6. A flexible metal or plastic clip 15 is slipped over the flange 14 and over the front edge of a shelf 17 thus attaching the case 6 to underside of a shelf '17.
The above mentioned tooth brush holder is designed to be manufactured from plastic material such as: regular polystyrene, high impact polystyrene, or semi-high impact polystyrene, or other plastic material such as: butyrate, acetate, Forticel, nylon, etc. Holder can also be made of any flexible plastic such as: polyethylene, or any other thermoplastic materials used in the plastic injection molding process.
The above mentioned tooth brush holder can also be made using the compression molding materials such as: diallyl phthalate, alkyd, mineral filled phenolic, urea type, or melamine materials, or any other thermo-setting plastic materials used in the plastic compression molding process of manufacture.
As a further optional feature, the invention contemplates the manufacture of the above described tooth brush holder and attaching clamps of sheet metal of sufficient thickness to provide adequate strength'necessary to hold a tooth brush and to withstandhandling when attaching and installing the holder. The metal used in the manufacture of the holder can'be a'flat stamping. Stamping can next be die formed and embossed to obtain the exact size and shape as shown in drawing of above invention; Holder and clamps can then be plated, painted or coated to prevent rust or tarnish. The use of non-rusting or stainless metal may be substituted in place of ordinary metal and likewise stamped and die formed making painting and plating, or coating unnecessary.
I claim:
A tooth brush holder for attachment to the under surface of a shelf adjacent the front edge thereof, comprising: a casing including an elongated rectangular bottom, an end member, the full width of said bottom extending upwardly from one end thereof, a second end member extending upwardly from the rear portion of the other end of said bottom and being cut-away in the forward area thereof to provide an end opening through which the handle of a toothbrush may project, and a front member 7 extending upwardly from said full width end member approximately half the length of the holder, said front member cooperating with the left half of said rear memher and bottom to define an enclosure for the head of a toothbrush, said holder having a front opening extending from said front memberthroughout substantially the other half of its length and communicating with said cut away space in said second end member'whereby a toothbrush may be received in said casing with said head in said compartment and its handle projecting through said Patented June '28 1960 a forwardly through said front opening; attachment flanges r tbblain toapdn,mx sil mw fimwa igai9sm fi q wfim di rfispeciive flange springrclamped against by drawing it lengthwise throng]: siad end opening and V 1 th un'dsr sniface of a shelf. r
