Description

NVE/VTH Eli J.' Hyde.
ATTORNEYS PATENTHD OCT. 9, 1906.
E. J. HYDE.l
TOOTH BRUSH HOLDER.
APPLIOATION FILED Amma. 1905.
l UNITED sTATEs PATENT oFEroE.
To all whom it may con/cern;
Be it known that I, ELI JOHN HYDE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Spokane, in the county'of Spokane and State of Washington, have invented a new and Improved Tooth-'Brush .Holder,. of which the following is al full, clear, and exact description.
The objects of this invention are to provide novel features for a tooth-brush holder that permit vits attachment in a vertical position on a wall or the like, adapt it to completely incase a tooth-brush, afford a transparent side wall for exposure lof .the brush while therein, afford spring-pressed end walls therefor that respectively serve as a lid and bottom for .the-holder and enable the convenient insertion and removal of the tooth-brush, provide drainage for the holder, and also provide means for ventilation of the holder, so 'that the brush may dry quickly when held therein.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, as is hereinafter described, and defined in the appended claims..
- Reference is to be had to the-accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in whlch similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a pers ective view of the improved tooth-brush liolder inV position on a wall, the lid of the holder being raised to permit afree insertion of'a tooth-brush within the holder. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the improved holder device, a tooth-brush therein, and the holder closed for protection of the brush and Fig. 3 is a plan view of the device,
showing the lid thereof closed adjustment.
The holder, as shown in the drawings, is in the form of a cylindrical wall or tube 5, preferably of glass, having suitable dimensions 1 to adapt 1t to 'receive and hold a ytoothbrush. The tubular wall 5 is inserted within a supportin -case 6, that may be of metal tubing or ot er available material and is secured therein, the case extending somewhat beyond each end of the holder-wall 5. The case 6 is cut away at the front side, so as to expose the holder-wall, as shown' at a, this opening leaving a portion of the case at each end imperforate. The case 6 is furnlshed with a plate-like bac-k 7 for seated engagement with a wall A or other stable support whereon the brush-holder is Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed April 28,1905. serial Nt. 251,856.
will remove the tooth-bras to be secured, I
Patented oct. 9, 1906.
and, as shown, the back plate 7 is extended i at each end of the case 6 to permit the iixture Y of the complete holder device upon a support,
such as the wall A, by means of screws b or the like.
Aclosure 8 for each end of the case l provided, these similar closures consistln of mainly circular plate-like lids having sul a diameteras adapts them for seating upon the respective endsl of the case 6 and closing the same. Each lid or cover 8 is hinged upon the ease 6 or the back plate 7 as shown at c, and is pressed upon the end of said case by a coiled spring c', mounted upon the pntle of the hinge and adapted for pressing down rpon the lid, as is clearly shown for one lid in 1g. 3. `k Near each end of the case 6 a plurality of spaced perforations d are formed therein, the perforations in the'normally lower end of the case-wall permitting drainage of the holdercase if an excess of water should be introduced therein with the tooth-brush. The perforations d in the upper end of the case 6, with those in the lower e case and ass therethrough, so that the brush will be ried by the air-current.
Upon each lid 8 a catch-lip e is formed that projects from its edge at the front, these li s tifilording catches for manually opening the 1 s. v In use the owner of a tooth-brush B and the holder therefor first raises the u by pressure applied u on the catchhp e, and when the lid is partia y raised the end of the tooth-brush handle may be-inserted and the entire brush be pushed into the holder by a single movement. When the`brush removed for use, the catch-lip e on the lower lid 8 is depressed, which will permit the handle of the tooth-brush to dropl through the opening into the hand of the one about to use it, whereupon a downward ull on the handle E, and the lid will instantly close the holder. The provision of the trans arent cylindrical body or holder wall 5 an the opening in the opaque case 6 at its front side is very advantageous, as it ermits a free inspection of the tooth-brush held therein Without removal of the same,
the holder.
By the use of ,the improved holder the is" to beQ portion of the same, I permit air to enter withinl th lot:
vand thus determine if the proper brush is inV i IIO tooth-brush is kept clean and'free from dust, y
1s held separate om other brushes, and as cut-away portion of the casing, an open-ended tubular glass body within the casing and terminating short of the ends thereof, and an attaching-plate secured to the side of the casing opposite the and having its ends extending beyond the ends of the said casing.
2. A tooth-brush holder, comprising an elongated open-ended tubular casing provided with an opening intermediate of its ends at the front and with perforations adjacent to its ends, closures for. the ends of the casing, and a tubular open-ended lass body within the easing and terminating s ort of the ends of the said Casin 3. A tooth-brush iolder, comprising an elongated tubular casing having closures for itsvends and provided with means by which it may be secured to a su port, the front of the casing being provide with an openin and a tubular glass body having open en s and secured within the casing with its ends terminating short ofthe ends of said casing.
In testimony whereof I have signed myname to this specication in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. ELI JOHN HYDE.
