Description

June 28, 1932. G v 1,864,874
TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER Filed June 1, 1929 Patented June 28, 1932 UNITED STATES GEORGE F. VOIGHT, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA TOOTHBRUSH HOLDER Application filed June 1, 1929. Serial No. 367,810.'
My invention relates to improvements in a tooth brush holder in which a tooth brush may be advantageously disposed for holding it under sanitary conditions when not in use;
6 and one of the objects of the invention is the provision of a tooth brush holder having a vertically extending tubular brush-holding element provided at one end with a flangelike base, whereby the holder may be disposed in an upright position on a table,
dresser, shelf, or the like; a further object is the provision of a tooth brush holder em-v bodying a tubular brush-holding compartment normally substantially closed at its ends and having an opening in one side through which a tooth brush may be projected either inwardly for disposing it in the compartment, or outwardly for removing it therefrom.
With the foregoing and still further objects and purposes in view which will appear as the description proceeds, my invention resides in the combination and arrangements of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it
being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing c Figure 1 is a front elevation of a tooth brush holder constructed in accordance with the present invention;
line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and a tooth brush disposed in the holder;
Figure 3 is a view in perspective of the holder;
Figure 4 is a cross section on line 4'-4' of Fig. 1;
Figure 5 is a cross section on line 5'--5 of Fig. 1
Figiire 6 is a bottom plan view of the holder; and
Figure 7 is a cross sectional View 7 -7 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail, throughout which like reference characters designate like parts:
on line Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view on The numeral 1 designates the brush holding element of the resent tooth brush holder. This element is tu ular in form and has its ends closed to form a top 2 and a bottom 3.
Both the top 2 and bottom 3 are concaved oni the inner side and conveXed on the outer s1 e. 1
In one side of thetubular element 1 is formed an opening 4; through which the tooth brush is adapted to be passed either for depositing it in the holder, or for removing it therefrom. This opening 4 extends from a point at or adjacent the bottom 3 upwards to about the longitudinal middle portion of the element 1'.
The lower end of the tubular element'l is provided with a circumferentially extending flange 5, which forms a base adapted to seat on a flat surface for supporting the holder; This flange however does not extend all the way around the tubular element, but is omit-- ted on the front or open side thereof'to form a gap 6, through which the handle of the toothbrush may be projected or passed to facilitate entering it for its normal reposal in said element, as well as for its withdrawal therefrom.
The bottom 3, which is provided at its portion with drainage openings 7, is located a short distance above the lower seating surface of the flange 5 to permit water that may adhere tothe brush when deposited in the holder, and that may drain to the bottom 3, to drain out through said openings.v
8 designates vent openings extending through the side walls of the upper end portion of the tubular element 1, which, in coop eration with the vopening 4, permit free air circulation through thecholder for drying of the brush as well as for the drying out of anymoisture that may be contained in the interior'ofthe holder.
The interior longitudinal dimension of the holder is intended to be somewhat greater than the length of the tooth brush deposited therein, to permit the lower end of the brush handle being passed over the outer rim of the bottom 3 without the top or brush end of the brush coming in contact with-the top 2. t --;.The flange 5 is adapted'to seat one surface for supporting the holder in an upright position; and to insert, or to remove, the tooth brush from the holder, the latter is lifted up free from the support by one hand while with the other hand the brush is passed through the opening l and between the gap 6.
As the present holder may be disposed on a dresser along with other toilet articles, it may be desirable to make the holder as short as is practically possible. The shorter the holder the relatively smaller diametrically the flange may be made without danger of the holder toppling over when accidentally struck with some other object. It is for this reason that I prefer to form the holder with the bottom 3 as low, relatively, as is delineated on the drawing.
The present improved tooth brush holder may be formed of such materials as celluloid, rubber composition, bakelite, porcelain or like vitrous substance, sterling silver, or any other I suitable material.
I claim: 7
1. In a tooth brush holder of the character described, a vertically disposed tubular brush holding element, and a horizontally disposed supporting flange on the lower end thereof, said tubular element having an opening in its side for the movement therethrough of a. tooth brush, said flange having a gap on one side registering substantially vertically with said opening.
2. A tooth brush holder comprising a tube to receive the brush, a base at the bottom of said tube to support the same in an upright position, the bottom of said tube terminating above the bottom of said base and being provided With'drain apertures, there being an open space between the bottom of said tube and the plane of the bottom of said base, said open space extending downwardly through the bottom of said base.
3. A tooth brush holder comprising a tube closed at its upper end and provided at its lower'end with a laterally extending base to support the same in an upright position, said tube having an opening in its side to permit a tooth brush to be inserted therein and removed therefrom, the brush end of the tooth brush being adapted to be disposed uppermost within said tube, and the opening in the side of said tube terminating a sufficient distance from the upper end of the tube so that when a tooth brush is disposed within the tube the brush portion of the brush is substantially entirely enclosed by the upper end portion of the tube, said base being provided with a gap alined with the opening in the side of the tube to facilitate insertion and removal of a brush into and from the tube through said opening.
4;. A tooth brush holder of the character described, comprising, a vertically extending elongated tubular brush holding element having an opening in its side forthe move- GEORGE F. VOIGHT.
