Abstract

PURPOSE: To simplify the moving valve mechanism of a four-cycle internal combustion engine provided with two intake valves per cylinder, by placing the intake valves in prescribed order as to the rotating direction of the swirl and operating the valves by an identical rocker arm.
CONSTITUTION: A first and a second intake ports 5, 6 are opened in a cylinder head 2 and oriented toward a combustion chamber 4 so that a mixture having passed through the intake ports swirls in the combustion chamber 4 around the axis of a cylinder 1. The cross-sectional area of the port 5 is made larger than that of the other 6. A first and a second intake valves 8, 9 for opening/closing the intake ports 5, 6 are engaged with an identical rocker arm 13, which is driven by a single cam 12. The points X1, X2 of contact of the stems 8a, 9a of the valves 8, 9 with the rocker arm 13 are so set that the distance S1 between the contact point X1 and the support shaft 14 of the arocker arm 13 is longer than that S2 between the other contact point X2 and the support shaft in order to make the valves different from each other in lift.
