Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a damping force generating structure for use in hydraulic shock absorber, in which flow restricting ports are formed in a piston to extend longitudinally of the same, and a leaf valve is disposed at the lower end of oil passage by the intermediary of an annular seat to restrict oil flow rate through said ports, whereby it is enabled to augment the damping force during compressive operation of the shock absorber. CONSTITUTION:A thru-hole 15 is formed in the body of piston 11a fitted in a cylinder, so as to communicate upper and lower liquid chambers 4 with each other. At the lower end of this thru- hole 15, there is provided a leaf valve 22 in series with the hole 15, and an annular seat 24 is fitted at the lower end of leaf valve 22. Longitudinally of piston 11a, a plurality of ports 25 are formed in parallel with the thru-hole 15, so as to commnicate another thru-hole 18 to a space 14 opened in the liquid chamber located downwardly of the cylinder. When the shock absorber is operated under compression, piston 11a is lowered so that hydraulic oil in the lower liquid chamber flows out through ports 25 into the upper liquid chamber, while forcing plate valve 16 open. Here, a part of the hydraulic oil flows into a tank chamber through the base valve, and shock absorbing force under compressive operation of the shock absorber is produced by the combined function of the base valve and ports 25.
