Abstract
A mixture of metal carbide, at least 50% being tungsten carbide, and a metal consisting of 5-100% nickel, 0-95% iron, and 0-30% chromium is mixed with an organic binding agent, e.g. a synthetic resin, extruded into rod form and sintered at 900-1300 DEG C. The tungsten carbide may be mixed with carbides of metals such as molybdenum, chromium, tantalum, niobium, titanium or zirconium and the metal may be nickel powder or austenitic chromium nickel steel. The rod may comprise 85% tungsten carbide and 15% nickel.
