    Yuri opened his eyes and sighed. This had to be some kind of sick joke that Celestino was playing on him. Phichit probably put him up to it or something. His phone was on the floor next to him. Yuri picked up his phone and looked at the date. It had to be wrong. December 9th, 2015. He was in Sochi in 2015.

    Yuri slid open the lock screen and opened up his camera. The face staring back at him was wearing a pair of glasses that he hadn’t worn in two years following a prescription change.

    He screamed.

    After falling into a magical lagoon during a once-in-a-lifetime eclipse, music students Viktor, Mila, and Yuri find themselves transforming into merfolk whenever they touch water... and considering that they live on the coast, that's probably going to cause some trouble. Things get even weirder when they discover strange powers that may have bigger effects on their daily lives than they could ever imagine.

    Add to the mix a thalassophobic pianist, a marine biologist (possibly cryptozoologist) who might actually be completely insane, and a treasure-hunting Canadian... one thing's for sure: their lives sure just got a whole lot more interesting.

    Christophe hums into the phone in a way that suggests he not only knows Katsuki Yuuri but he’s acquainted with him. Chris’ version of acquaintance is very physical and usually involves a healthy amount of groping. “Don’t you?”

    “He’s Japan’s Ace,” Victor says, trying to rack his brain for more information. “His step sequence is good?”

    Chris hums again. “You’re not that oblivious that you haven’t heard of Unfairly Beautiful Yuuri.”

    “Who?”

The last thing either of them should do, as they strive for their last chance at greatness, is to fall in love. Yuuri knows he is damaged goods, and Viktor knows his body is starting to fail him. They have competitions to survive and medals to win. No, falling in love is out of the question; they’re just very good friends. And even if Viktor felt something, he’d never act on it, and even if Yuuri happened to be hopelessly in love, he’d be mortified if Viktor ever found out.

    “Well,” Viktor said, “let’s summarise: I’m pushing thirty, have a bad ankle, and haven’t skated competitively in three years. You’re barely out of a doping scandal, coachless, and on the JSF’s blacklist. Hell, Yuuri – we might as well go for it, then. What on earth do we have to lose?”

    When Viktor put it like that, it seemed to make an awful lot of sense.
