***CURRENT HIATUS***
It’s so intense, so blindingly hot and sweltering and thick against every inch of his body he can’t even think as he tries to crawl towards his door, to his mother who he knew was just down the hall, who could help him and save him for whatever torment had latched to his body.
Instead, right as his hand reaches forward, the tip of his bone sticking out from the mess of melted flesh, his room vanishes in an instant, leaving way to nothing but pure blackness that not even his burning body seems to light. There’s a piercing cry, high and angry and pained, coated in disbelief and shock, and at the sound of it, the pain and fire dissipates so quickly Adam couldn’t even question why or what happened when memories flood through his frazzled mind, and there is light, blood, pain, and a singular name.
Michael.
And as Adam looks around the empty landscape, his own throat healed and quiet, he puts it together.
Michael was screaming.
And with that tortured wail echoing in the background, bouncing off of nothing as his skin stitches back together, burns lifting from his skin without a trace, Adam remembers.

The boys manage to get cas from the empty, at the cost of his grace. As hard as that is, it's even harder when cas dies only weeks later.
Talking to Rowena lets them know that he's not in hell, but Jack's awol. So it's more difficult to find out if he's in heaven. It takes them finding out that a certain archangel isn't actually dead, and a long endeavor to find him.
After all that, they realized that Castiel was not in fact in heaven, but he was in purgatory.
Dean goes on a long journey to find him, a journey that includes starting fights with the leviathan, raising all his friends from the dead. Fighting with heaven ensues, because they are under orders to keep him in purgatory. Orders from who, well obviously Jack.

Unto the ages of ages, even spied carefully behind dark glass, there is world without end.
Things cannot end like this. Jack pours his love for Cas into the Empty, forcing light and life within, hauling his father back. The family he's got - including that of Sam and Dean - they have to preserve it. And in some ways, to heal it; drawing out the darkness like infection from a wound.
Yet he must keep going, be strong, and brave - he has godly power, and so he must be strong enough to fix things.
But what happens if -actually, when- he needs fixing?
(Or, Jack is having a hard time adjusting to his status as God, and after doing his best to make things right, receives some aid in a manner - and from a quarter - unexpected)

They're walking through a heaven that's a single flat plain of snow, under a silver-pale sky. Jade ice studs the ground nearby, crags of rippling turquoise that glow electric-blue where the sunlight catches them.
"You were my vessel," says Michael. "We have a duty to our vessels, even as we also benefit."
"Bullshit," says Adam. "I mean, I saw what Lucifer did to Sam." The memories still turn his stomach, even now.
"Well, nobody ever called Lucifer a paragon of responsibility," says Michael frigidly.

"Look, I..." Adam taps his thumb on his knee as it bounces up and down. He looks at Michael out of the corner of his eye, at the angel rolling and re-rolling his shirt cuffs as if he needs his fingers to have something to do. "You don't have to talk about it, but. I just. You said you could still hear me, whenever I prayed to you." Michael's hands go stock-still. "And I just, I wondered..." Adam's knuckles have gone white as he clenches his hand, feeling his heart drop. "Was wherever - the place where you were -" gulping heavily and turning to the archangel, he asks, voicing something they haven't talked about: "Was it... was it as bad as the Cage, Michael?"
It is as if Michael's body freezes, like he isn't breathing, which could be the case; adam still isn't entirely clear on what the archangel's body actually needs. But then it's like something snaps, and those stiff shoulders and strong hands begin shaking. Reaching out and taking Adam's hand, his voice barely audible as it sounds as if it's being forced out of his throat:
"No, Adam. It was worse."
(Or, after a while topside together, Adam wonders how Michael got back and where exactly he'd been when gone. So he decides to ask.)
