Look. Jason had grown up watching the same shit as every other red blooded American mutt. There’d been the McCallisters massive cube of cookie cutter suburban paradise. There’d been the Addams family’s kick-ass gothic mansion. There’d been a bakers dozen of Disney castles, and Scooby Doo haunted houses with never-ending hallways and doors. He’d had the concept of big houses down.
Having the concept of it wasn’t worth shit when he was confronted with the reality.
(Jason might not be treading water anymore, one bad night away from going under, but he's still in strange waters. But this time, with these people, he doesn't have to worry about drowning)

Summary
When Batman rescues a twelve-year-old boy from a sex-trafficking ring, he ultimately makes the decision to look after him for a few days, feeling responsible for his current condition. Joker Venom was a nasty drug, and Bruce feared that the boy might not make a full recovery without his help.
Revealing his identity to the boy is the logical next step. Building trust was important, and Bruce needed Jason to trust him.
There’s one slight problem with Bruce’s plan.
Due to the effects of the Joker Venom, Jason doesn’t remember anything about meeting Batman, let alone Bruce Wayne.
In Jason’s eyes, he’s been trafficked.

The monster hunter had found another monster.

Batman said something. Jason only heard the words "blood" and "death."
He was done for. He couldn't breathe.
Dying really hurt.

"Again?""I'm not adopting him!" Bruce protested. "He was bleeding! And he stole my tires. I couldn't find his mother."
"You kidnapped a new sibling?" Dick looked out. He saw the Pooka and ran toward Bruce. "You're exuding a lot of... protection, B."

Or, like in every universe, Jason steals the tires of the Batmobile, but in this universe, the tires have their revenge. Dick doesn't quite understand what's going on, but this little Pooka is adorable and needs to see The Greatest Showman. It'll work.
The universe hit Bruce too hard. This is not a metaphor. Please, Jason, put that bar down.

[Inspired by Freedom Like Ashes by Ghxst_Bird and their AU, check them out! This is my first work/fic that I'm posting btw]
Jason listened from his hiding place. Men yelling, fighting, gun shots, the basic chaos. The smell of burning alerted him to get moving. Smoke started filling the room quickly, he grabbed a cloth and tied it around his face to breathe. He saw flames coming from his room's entrance.
He ran over to his closet, grabbed his large bag from his 'street kid/running from bounty hunters of some kind' days that still had good gear inside, and started grabbing essentials from his room. He packed a couple pairs of clothes, blankets with a single small pillow, the magic heating rocks for his dragon egg, alongside the book about dragons to help him. He grabbed a couple sheets and maneuvered them together to create a sling for the egg.
Gently he placed it in, making sure to check it was secure and safe. He turned to look at the door, the flames had burned through the upper door with smoke pouring in. He turned and grabbed a chair, threw it, as best he could, at the huge room window. It took two more tries before it shattered.He fled knowing he would miss this 'home'.

Three weeks later Dick Grayson finds his wallet curiously absent after a collision with a young boy on the street.
Dick and Bruce join forces to find the talented young boy.

A few scales could buy him food for months, could even pay for a few nights at a cheap motel when it got cold, if he stretched it. Jason’s stomach rumbled at the thought.
And he was so hungry.
(or: Jason tries to steal a dragon's scales. It's a shame he doesn't realise the giant black dragon lying in Crime Alley is Batman.)

Summary
Jason was not a good person.
It was actually more accurate to say that Gotham didn't let good people survive. Being a good person, especially if honest, in Gotham was the best way to get killed or end up in Black Gate. In Park Row, being a good person was synonymous with being stupid, and stupid people ended up with cement shoes at the bottom of the river or pieces in plastic bags.
Red Hood was born out of necessity, nothing more than a simple red hoodie with a handkerchief tied to his face. It was so easy to pretend to mess with the bigger gangs and other lone criminals, to make them believe that there was even a much bigger and more organized gang behind it while the anonymous, little Jason Todd put sweatshirt and handkerchief in his backpack and went about making a living for another day.
So, with that premise, Jason had no chance of getting on that skimpy list of good people.
