Fashion Over Forty: White Denim and Pink for Spring and Summer

It's Friday already that means I have another outfit post to share today. Last week I mentioned that I'll be sharing another styling idea for this new henley top. I love to be able to mix and match my clothes, and I think that's the case with most things from my closet.

Please note, this post does include some affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, as always this is at no cost to you. Thanks so much for your support.

For today's outfit post I paired my new pink henley top with white crop jeans. I wasn't always a fan of white jeans but in the recent years they've been growing on me. They are actually so easy to care for, since they are white, bleach can be added to the wash to keep them white.

In case you missed my last two fashion posts, this is a new linen top I recently purchased from LOFT. I ordered XS instead of what I should have - Petite Small - and it is a looser fit on me. Even after washing (and hoping it would shrink some and it did) it's still fits a little loosely. If you're interested in purchasing this top, I'd suggest staying with your regular size. It's been restocked in all regular sizes and you can get it at 60% off when you use code FRESH.  On a side note, I wish I had used a steamer after washing and drying it, but I used a regular iron and didn't realize it was still wrinkled.
Such a perfect material though to wear on a hot day!

              >>>>>Sale Alert: 60% off "Made for Summer" Styles at LOFT! Use Code: FRESH

Windy day along the river..

These crop jeans are from LOFT but a few years old. For an updated look I like these chewed hem jeans also from LOFT but they are more of an ankle lengths. These white crop jeans from American Eagle have good reviews and they come in regular, short and tall lengths. Zappos also has a good selection of white jeans with free shipping and return shipping. When ordering pants online, always check the inseam so you know what lengths you are getting.
Tip: Nude underwear (your shade of nude) is a must when wearing white jeans otherwise they will be seen through the pants.

I love the patterned bags from Sakroots when paired with solid colors. This bag I've had for a few years. The exact style of my bag no longer available, but this crossbody bag is very similar. My current favorite is this crossbody bag in the "multi peace birds" print. I also really love the small satchel I linked below, but find crossbody bags more practical. Such a pretty print and straw combination for summer!

  1. Sakroots Flat Crossbody (this is the same print as my bag in the pictures, but slightly different style)
  2. Sakroots Crossbody Bag (I ordered this one when it was on sale)
  3. Sakroots Small Straw Satchel (I love this one as well but crossbody bags are my go-to bags)

For shoes I'm wearing chunky heel slides I've had for a while as well, but not worn too much as they aren't the most comfortable shoes. I prefer my chunky heel sandals from Natural Soul (purchased at   Kohl's a couple of years ago)  much more but I thought I'd better wear these on occasion since they are taking up room in the closet.

As always, thanks so much for stopping by today!

Fashion Over Forty: Utility Jacket for Spring and What We've Cooked This Week

Hello and thanks so much for visiting! I hope you are all doing ok and staying at home if you don't have to be out. I'm finding plenty of stuff to do to keep me occupied and I try to get the kids  (teens) involved in many of the daily activities around the house. They are getting a few assignments from teachers but nothing is required here in our disctrict at this point, however I am very happy that they are deciding on doing them anyway. I've also had them more involved in cooking and general housekeeping. (I usually do these things when they are in school during the week - At the end of this post I've shared some of the things we've cooked in case you're looking for some ideas.) Earlier this week we finally got all the oak leaves raked when we had a sunny day. Now if we just had some warmer weather again...

As I mentioned in my latest blog post, I am trying to keep my home life as normal as possible while following the government guidelines, that means I will continue to blog as long as I have something  relevant to my blog to share about.

*Please note, this post includes some affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, this is at no extra cost to you.

For this week's style post I'm sharing a typical (to me) spring outfit - blue jeans, stripes and a thin jacket. Of course this outfit works just as well in fall, although our fall days here in the midwest are usually either warm where no jacket is needed or too cold for a thin jacket like this one.

My utility jacket was purchased at Rue21 a couple of years ago. Another one of those days when I took my daughter shopping and I ended up finding something for myself. I'm not used to shopping at Rue21 and that was the only time I ever shopped there, but I had to size up in this jacket as my usual size was way too small. My exact jacket is no longer available, this olive green utility jacket from Target looks very similar.

If you've been following my fashion posts, then you might remember seeing this striped top before when I styled it with gray skinny jeans last fall. You can see it here if you're interested.

The tasselled sweater was purchased last fall from LOFT and is no longer available, but I found the same style of sweater in navy. Then this sweater is similar in the colors but a litte bit different style. By the way, LOFT is currently offering Free Shipping and Free Returns until through March 31st. Use code EXTRA.

Options from LOFT below...

My crossbody bag is by Nine West (similar option) and my booties are by Miz Mooz, the same style I've shared in this recent outfit post, but in black. While they are lace up boots, they do come with a practical zipper  in the back as you can see on the picture above. As mention in a recent post mine came from  Nordstrom. While no longer available there, Miz Mooz still has a couple of sizes left directly from their site, otherwise you can find them on Amazon. These are the Lennox style. But now that spring is here, I will be putting these boots away until fall.

These jeans are my AG skinny jeans I got from eBay a few months ago. I would have preferred a mid rise over these lower rise jeans, but missed that detail when I bought them. Still, they are my current go to jeans. I'm sure most of us don't feel like clothes shopping at the moment, but I did notice some  great choices  of AG jeans at great prices (compared to the original price) at Nordstrom Rack.

So before I sign off for today, I wanted to share the things we've been cooking ....nothing fancy or special, but favorites that I hope my kids one day can cook by themselves because I know how nice it is it to be able to re-create meals from the childhood.

We made French Toast. I don't follow a specific recipe but I make mine similar to this one (minus the nutmeg and vanilla - I like things plain :-). My son and hubby eat theirs with maple syrup, I love mine with plain granulated sugar and my daughter eats hers with powdered sugar. You can always add some sort of fruit or cinnamon, but we don't usually.

We also made Semolina Pudding (ate it for breakfast). Again, I have no recipe, but it's similar to this recipe.  (Please note, this is a single serve recipe. I always make enough for 4, use regular granulated sugar and I also add one egg.)

We made Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal. I just follow the instructions on the box of Old Fashioned Oats, then add a couple of diced apples, sugar and cinnamon.

For lunches we made Old Fashioned Cabbage and Noodles with Kielbasa. I found  this recipe a few years ago from Pinterest and we all love it. I don't use chicken stock, and use just water instead.

We also made Potato Salad (without mayo - we don't eat mayo). I just make mine with peeled boiled potatoes - sliced, sliced sweet onion and a simple oil, vinegar and salt dressing.

We made Pork Chop Sandwiches with thin cut pork on steak roll I buy from Walmart. ( I ususally keep a bag of these rolls in the freezer.)

We also made simple Homemade Pizzas. I love using Aldi's Artisan Flatbreads for the "pizza dough". This is another item I usually keep in the freezer for when we want to make pizzas.

Today we're going to make Potato Soup with ham shanks. I again don't have a specific recipe but this one sounds similar. As usual, I don't use any chicken stock or broth and I use water instead. To me the soup get enough flavor from just using the vegetables and meat, but everyone's tastebuds are different and you may want to use the chicken broth instead.

Still have some some frozen Salmon Filet left and frozen veggies and things to make a pot of Chili, but will definitely need to get to the grocery store this weekend. It's crazy how one full cart of groceries is just enough for a week....

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

Fashion Over Forty: Favorite Fall Sweater Finds From Target

This is not a sponsored post, however it includes some affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission if you purchase something through the links, at no cost to you! Thank you so much for your support!

This is my second post for today. If you are here to view my newest papercraft for Penny Black and More challenge, click here (hopefully the permalink works!) or simply scroll down to the next post.

While visiting a few fashion blogs recently I came across a sweater from Target that I LOVED. However it was not available at my local store (small town problem!!) so I decided to go online to check out their new sweaters and found several I wanted to try. Target ships free at $35 or more, and returns are easy (at the store or by mail). My order came in two shipments, today I am showing you an outfit with the first sweater I received. At the end of this post I've included pictures of the others I ordered and received in the meantime.

You can purchase this striped sweater here, (it's by  Universal Threads) (ETA: This color option is Sold Out, but available in Gray Stripes which is a great choice for the Winter months.) and if you are lucky you might find it at your local Target store while your're out shopping. This is not the sweater I've seen posted by the other fashion blogger, but one that caught my eye while browsing their site. I've always been a fan of striped tops and I love these colors so it made its way into the shopping cart.

This is a mock neck sweater. I was worried that it would be itchy but the fabric is so soft and not itchy at all. The label says it's machine washable, but I did notice one of the reviewers recommending hand washing, because her sweater came out with lint on the black stripes after machine washing it. I do try to hand wash most of my knit sweaters anyway as it keeps them in better condition than machine washing. I always use Woolite Delicates when hand washing knit sweaters.

I would say it runs true to size. I did end up folding it up at the sleeves but I am petite and therefore it was a little bit long on my arms.

My jeans are from Loft. This pair was purchased a few years ago so I can no longer link to them. They do have some great new styles available, and I assume they are still as comfortable as mine are.  Right now, Loft is running a 40% off sale with code FRIENDS.

LOFT

I've had these boots by Clark for a long time. They may not be "on trend" but they are super comfortable. I have no link for these, but if you're looking for a comfortable pair of booties with a little heel I like these booties by Taos with a 1.25 inch heel. I also like these ankle boots by Miz Mooz (I've mentioned these before). And these vintage inspired booties look pretty amazing as well, but with a higher heel of 2.5". I've also heard great things about Vionic brand. You can view their ankle boots here

For a lower price option do check out Target ankle boots. I've never purchased shoes for myself from Target, so I can't say how comfortable they are, but many of their shoes/boots do have good reviews.

My shoulder bag is by Chaps (old). I does convert easily into a cross body bag and I love that because they are so practical.

Related Products:

Below are all the sweaters I ordered: each one I received in a size XS and they fit as expected, true to size. For size references I am around 5'2" and  weigh around 120lb.

This crew neck sweater (from the A New Day line) was featured on another blog and I fell in love! I love the unique Victorian inspired neckline and the sleeve details. The color is gorgeous too and it's so soft!  Like the other  blogger, I will be styling this top with jeans but not with a skirt! This one is a keeper!

This tunic lengths sweater (also by A New Day) was shared by a different fashion blogger. (They are all so enabling!!) I normally don't buy turtlenecks, but really liked the way this one looked worn by the other blogger styled with skinny jeans, I decided to order it. Again the sweater is super soft, not at all scratchy and the turtleneck is loose enough where it doesn't bother me. I also love this  burgundy color and loved how it fit. So it is another keeper.

This Ribbed Crew neck Sweater (another one by A New Day) is also really soft. This is a more fitted sweater style. I decided to return this one although the color is gorgeous and I did like the fit, but I liked the other sweaters more and cannot keep all of them.

I also got this sweatshirt by Universal Threads, but in a rust (brown) color. I don't see that color online anymore. But wanted to list in anyway as I find it super comfortable and it's another keeper for a casual look.

Finally, below is the sweater I'm wearing in today's post. As mentioned this sweater is so soft and warm, and the mock neck is very comfortable and not itchy at all. I've already worn it twice.

I hope you enjoyed today's post. Next week I'll be sharing an outfit with this crew neck sweater. Hope you'll come back to see that look.

Fashion Friday: A Casual Look with Straight Leg Jeans and T-Shirt

Hello and happy Friday! If you've been following any fashion blogs or have been reading any fashion related magazines then I'm sure you've heard that straight leg jeans are currently (and for a little while now) having a moment. Today I am styling a pair of straight leg jeans (mine are old - from Gap) and a simple striped T-shirt from Kohls. I was shopping for back to school clothes.... now that my daughter is shopping in the Juniors department I always seem to find something for myself :-) I thought this simple scoop neck tee in the raspberry (or deep rose) color would be perfect for the end of summer season and into fall. I love this color for fall!

My jeans are old,  this pair from Target by Universal Threads looks similar to mine.

I'm linking to a few options below. Remember: these models are all very tall, so they will  be longer on most of us.

26.5" inseam
27" inseam uncuffed

Some Cigarette Jeans below. These are a slim straight cut, whereas the jeans above are a relaxed straight silhouette.

28" inseam
This crop style Prima AG is  26.5" inseam and might be a better fit if you are petite.

The scoop neck t-shirt is by SO brand found in the Juniors department at Kohl's. I bought it in July and can't find a link to it now. This rose colored top from Target is similar but without stripes.

The UGG driving loafers I am wearing were purchased last year at the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and are no longer available. A few similar options are linked below. Or you can see all of Nordstrom's Driving Loafers here. Remember, shipping and return shipping is always free at Nordstrom, which makes buying shoes online very easy.

This shoe is also available in wide widths and several other colors.

This shoe is out of my price range, but may not be for some of you, so I'm including it.

While it was warm on the day we took these pictures, I decided to bring a thin cardigan along for a fall look. I love wearing cardigans, as a matter of fact I have them in reach all year long because my family members love to run the AC and I am always cold.

This minimalist style cardigan is from H&M (old). It's made of a thin knit material which makes it perfect for 3 out of 4 seasons. (I need something warmer in winter.) This specific cardigan is no longer available - a few option are below....

I really love this one but the sizes are limited.

My bag is by B.O.C. I really wanted to wear my brown saddle bag again, but I thought this deep red and brown bag would be a good match for the Tshirt.

For jewery I am wearing a gold-toned necklace I recently purchased from Loft. This is a two piece set and each one can be worn by itself. As you can see the leaves are sized differently and the chain lenghts is different as well, so they can be worn layered. I always seem to go for just one though.
Speaking of Loft, the store is running a great Labor Day Weekend Sale - 40 to 50% off almost everything. This necklace is an extra 40% off with code: LONGWEEKEND.

Similar Jeans by Universal Threads or AG Prima  for a Slimmer Look // T-shirt option Rose Colored Top // Cardigan Option BP Longline Cardigan // Gold-Toned Necklace from Loft // Bracelet from Nordstrom Rack // Shoulder Bag by B.O.C // Eyeglasses Frame by Coach

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my blog. Hope you have a fantastic Labor Day weekend! Not too much planned here. Tomorrow my daughter is going to audition for the Nutcracker Ballet (yes it's that time of the year already!!!). Then we might have to go for another pointe shoe try-on (if the order arrives as expected). It's been a struggle finding a pair of pointe shoes that fit ever since she broke her big toe in the spring. I'm positive though as it seemed like she had a good fitting session last weekend, just had to order a size up to get the right fit.

Enjoy your weekend and hoping for some beautiful weather!
