TOURISM PLANNING:
Tourism planning is the process of considering the needs of people
planning a trip and using those factors to determine the best
resources, programs and activities for their trip.
Tourism planning is intended for local residents and businesses of
the location, as well as tourists who travel there.
It is a process of setting objectives, identifying a course of action,
analysing and implementation of a plan that will favour tourism
and its policies.
According to Gunn “Tourism planning should be directed towards
mainly four basic goals which are: sustainable use of resources,
integration of local community and area, enhanced visitor
satisfaction and improved economy and business success.”
NEEDS OF TOURISM PLANNING:
To determine the optimum level that can result in the
achievement of environmental conservation objectives.
To ensure that the natural and cultural resources are indefinitely
maintained in the process of development.
The direct & indirect benifts can be optimized through the careful
& integrated planning.
Tourism can generate various socio economic benefits as well as
problems
Planning provides the rational basis of development staging and
project programming.
To satisfy the manpower skills & capability requirements of
tourism development.
TOURISM POLICY;
Tourism policy making is inherently a political activity affected
by formal structures of government.
A tourism policy provides a set of guidelines for all those
directly and indirectly involved in tourism by specifying broad
goals, objectives, priorities and actions for the development of
tourism.
OBJECTIVES OF TOURISM POLICY;
The main objective of tourism planning is to achieve successful
tourism development and management.
The main objectives are as following- Establishing the role of
tourism development objectives
Developing tourism in such a way that natural and cultural
resources do not get any harm.
Integrating tourism into the overall development policies.
Providing a rational basis for decision making by both public and
private sectors on tourism development .
