In this lesson, you are expected to:
• Determine the purpose or objective of various kinds of
reports;
• decide what report must be written according to the
situation; and
• identify the different components and parts of a report.
Have you ever tried or experienced writing entries in a diary?
Some people are used to writing their thoughts and significant
experiences in a diary. Some of them just want to be able to vent
out their feelings through writing, and some want to keep records
of the events that happened in their lives. This simple activity of
writing in a diary is a type of documentation or report where in a
person records, takes notes, and lists down the important
achievements and changes in situations. In this module, you will
learn more about documentation and reports.

Report
•It is an account or statement describing in detail an event
or situation or the like. It is often a result of an observation
or inquiry.
•It is a document containing information organized in a
narrative, graphic or tabular form. It presents information
and facts in an organized format for a specific
audience/purpose.

1. Informational Report
• presents results so readers can understand a
particular problem or situation
• Purposes:
 to present information on the status of current research or of a project
 to present an update of the operation in your division
 to explain how your organization or division does something
 to explain and elaborate how something happens/happened
 incident report is a type of informational report because it contains details about
a certain event/incident
 memorandum is a type of informational report because it contains details about
a certain instruction from the administration or management office of a certain
company.

2. Analytical Report
• presents results, analyze those results, and draw
conclusion based on those results. This type of report
attempts to describe why or how something happened
and explain what it means.
• Purposes:
 to explain what causes a problem or a situation
 to explain the potential results of a particular course of
action
 to suggest which option, action, or procedure is the best
3. Recommendation Report
• this type advocates a course of action. This report is
almost the same with analytical report.
• Purposes:
 to answer the questions, "What should we do about the
problem?”
 “Should we or can we do something about it?”
 “Should we change the method to do something?”
4. Progress and Status Report
•tries to explain how much progress is achieved on
something.
• Purposes:

 to describe an ongoing project.


 to enable you to check on yourself/team so that you can
better estimate what remains to be done and how much
time you have to do it.
5. Feasibility Report
• this shows whether or not a project or idea should be
implemented. It also shows the reasons why or why
not.
• Purpose:
 to show the possibilities or results if a certain project will
be implemented.
6. Periodic Report
• this allows the management to keep track of an
ongoing operations on a periodic or regular basis. It
can be filed daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly
etc.
• Purpose:
 to give updates according to the schedule.
7. Troubleshooting Report
• this is used by technicians to convey information
regarding the analysis and correction of problems
found in industrial products.
• Purposes:
 to show the defects of a certain product/project
 to show the applied solution to the identified problems
