Simply competitive
ACTIVA-S CCD-based ICP Atomic Emission Spectrometer Combines Simplicity with a high performance CCD Detector
ACTIVA-S is a CCD-based ICP-AES instrument based upon A Platform for the Future, maintaining the Strengths of HORIBA Scientific Spectrometers while incorporating advanced CCD (Charge Coupled Device) technology to improve quality and flexibility. ACTIVA-S is the perfect Solution to first-time operators and for routine analysis with defined applications. Simplicity Both Spectrometer and Detector of ACTIVA-S offer the ease-of-use that every analyst wishes. Plug-&Play operations and automatic optimisations help the user to operate the instrument at its best and achieve excellent analytical results. Flexibility The Total Plasma View, from Superior vertical torch based radial observation, combined with a light-rich, high performance optical System, allows the analyst to run all types of Samples. The full wavelength coverage, from 160 to 800 nm, emphasizes this flexibility: a unique and proprietary ICP-based Spectral database (from S3-base: Single-element Spectra, Spectroscopic data) leads to optimum Selectivity with potential use of all ICP lines, and a Superior Semiquantitative analysis offers a precise identification of the Samples. Quality The combination of HORIBA Scientific high quality optics with the advanced features of the CCD detector is optimized to make the difference. The ultra-low noise and excellent practical dynamic range of the CCD, associated to the constant resolution, aberration free, high luminosity holographic gratings of the optical System, enable the instrument to fit the needs of Simplicity, Stability and Quality. The high performance CCD Sensor designed for Scientific Spectroscopy provides excellent analytical capabilities, obtained with minimal operator optimisation. The powerful ACTIVAnalyst Software enhances the unique capabilities of the instrumental configuration.

Spectrometer of high quality

Excellence in Spectrometer configuration with attention to Simplicity, flexibility and quality
Spacious Sample introduction area and convenient corrosion resistant fold-down Sample tray enable the user to run any type of Samples with dedicated Sample introduction Systems. Quick release and quick mount torch design in a large and user-friendly compartment, with no adjustmentrequired, facilitates multi-user operation and provides excellent reproducibility. The Vertical Torch with Superior Total Plasma View provides optimum Sensitivity, with reduced matrix effects, for both aqueous and organic matrices. The Sheath gas device, with a large 3 mm i.d. injector tube, gives unique high dissolved Solids capability (up to 30% NaCl), with excellent long-term Stability, and minimises memory effects. Smart Hood provides Safe, convenient extraction with reduced installation costs. Reliable high efficiency 40.68 MHz Solid State generator enhances the ability to handle a wide variety of applications and improves the limits of detection. Warm-up time is also reduced (usually less than 15 minutes). The Dual back-to-back gratings (4343 / 2400 g/mm) offer constant Spectral resolution and full flexibility in line Selection. The optical resolution is better than 12 pm in the 160-430 nm range and less than 22 pm in the 430-800 nm range. High technology electronics with Rapid ChipTM components leads to fast data transfer and processing. The ultra low noise CCD Solid State detector offers high productivity analysis of multiple elements at multiple wavelengths including Simultaneous background correction within a spectral window. The first-time user rapidly becomes confident in the use of the instrument: optimisation operations or analytical corrections are minimised and the plasma configuration is ready for all applications.

ACTIVA S

Sensor for Spectroscopy

Unique CCD adapted to HORIBA Scientific quality optics
ACTIVA-S is equipped with an Open Electrode CCD (Charge Coupled Device) detector with an image area of 26.6 x 6.7 mm. This detector is perfectly Suited to the Total Plasma View configuration by efficiently collecting all the useful information emitted by the plasma. Simultaneous measurement provides high productivity analysis of multiple elements at multiple wavelengths including background correction within a Spectral window. The addition of adjacent Spectral windows allows the System to cover the entire Spectrum, for fast Semi-quantitative analysis with multiple wavelengths.

A powerful pre-Shot algorithm automatically optimizes exposure time and column binning, which takes advantage of the full benefit of the maximum available dynamic range. Binning of the 256 pixel-high column results in a decrease in read-out time with no addition of readout noise and an increase in the linear dynamic range. The combination of ultra low noise and binning

capability then provide a practical dynamic range (Signal before saturation-to-readout noise ratio) of 107, with a linear response range of 5 decades minimum, for each line. Analysis of trace and major elements can be easily performed with one measurement, without requiring dilution.

Software for all

Powerful ACTIVAnalyst Software extends instrument capability and fully utilizes the unique capabilities of Solid State detection
ACTIVAnalyst Software provides a data audit trail for user and instrument operation, and an online lab book to record daily actions performed. Multi-level Security permits user access levels for viewing and editing. The wavelength library is based on the unique and proprietary S3-base developed by HORIBA Scientific, featuring not only actual wavelengths derived from an ICP Spectrometer, but also their Spectroscopic data such as limit of detection, line width, etc. Productivity is enhanced by automatic user programmable Start up and Shutdown, minimising argon usage. Within a method, the user gets assistance in optimisation of line Selection and acquisition parameters. Productivity is further enhanced with automated analysis using a multi-method Sequence for Samples of various matrices requiring different methods. Barcode identification is available for Samples loaded in a Sequence. Automatic unattended operation is possible using the auto-Sampler with programmable re-calibrations and QC checks with user defined actions. The Simultaneous measurement provides the ability to visualise the Spectra of lines and their vicinity during analysis, for fast confirmation of element presence or visual identification of unexpected Spectral interferences. Automatic Superior Semi-quantitative analysis of all elements is performed from full Spectrum acquisition (IMAGE) and with the Total View mode for concentration calculation, data reporting and data reprocessing. Urgent Samples can be inserted in an on-going Sequence, using either the current method or any other method. When required, results can be optimised, using various analytical correction methods. Results reprocessing is possible after calibration or parameter changes. The user benefits of network ready results and reporting with flexible export to a defined location or to a LIMS System. Diagnostics data reporting allows the analyst to control the performance of the instrument. SPC (Statistical Process Control) is included for X, R, SD and histogram charts of user-Selected Solutions. Audit Trail Analyst for 21CFR Part 11 compliance with a powerful SQL Server database offers data Security with electronic Signatures and multi-level authorisation logon, and an error log file. TimeScan gives the possibility to have real-time output of instrument Signal for troubleshooting, or for transient Signal acquisition (data available for export as a TXT file).
