CASE APPLICATION - Indra Nooyi: An Inspiring Leader

1. Feedback on presentation and debate group

• Presentation group:

With regard to technical matters, group 3's case study presentation was flawless overall. Rather
than using too many colors, Group 3 avoided confusion by using a minimalist color palette,
mostly black and white, for their graphics and decorations. This made it easier for viewers to
follow. In order to complement the primary color scheme and the questions' subject matter, the
presentation's images were also carefully chosen. The lesson's material was organized into
logically focused, concise sections that were also visually appealing. These sections included the
major points in a clear, concise, and comprehensive manner. To make the knowledge and
information they wished to communicate through the slides easy for readers to understand, they
created bullet points using noun phrases. The majority of the group engaged the audience
throughout their speech by presenting their information in a clear, thorough, confident, and fluid
manner. The trio demonstrated that they had thoroughly planned their lessons in order to respond
to questions promptly by the way they handled questions from the presentation groups.

• Debate group:

Group 3 nailed their debate with clear, well-thought-out arguments and great teamwork. They
tackled tough issues smoothly, showing they really understood the topic. Each member pitched
in well, balancing assertiveness with respect for different views. They kept us hooked with
convincing points backed up by solid evidence and a confident delivery. Overall, Group 3
showed they were well-prepared and in control, impressing both judges and their peers. Their
relaxed yet professional style made their debate not just informative but also engaging and
enjoyable to watch.

orientation highlights the principles of customer focus and employee empowerment, crucial for
sustainable business success. Thirdly, Nooyi's commitment to diversity and inclusion
exemplifies the principle of social responsibility and ethical leadership, fostering a supportive

CASE APPLICATION - Hong Kong Disneyland: HR Programs to Motivate Employees

1. Feedback on presentation and debate group

• Presentation group:

Overall, the way Group 9 presented demonstrated the fluency and confidence, showing that they
had prepared well for the topic. They made their presentation simple to follow and comprehend
by using well-known vocabulary and concepts. Team 9 also answered all the questions from the
other two groups, ensuring that no aspect was left unanswered. Visually, they did an excellent
job of combining eye-catching images with concise yet informative text. The main color of the
presentation was highly aesthetically pleasing, making it easy for the reader to follow along. The
second plus point was the way they arranged the information neatly without being wordy,
making the presentation even more appealing to the viewer. Beside, Team 9's presentation,
although providing a lot of useful information about the lesson, had problems with volume and a
lack of emotional connection. There was a member who spoke too softly to be heard clearly, and
there were missing connecting words between some parts of the presentation, making it
disjointed. Additionally, they should adjust the emphasis of their sentences to make the
presentation more emotional, thereby attracting attention from everyone in the class.

4
• Debate group:

Group 9 delivered a truly impressive debate performance that left a strong mark on the class.
Their arguments revealed a clear and profound understanding of the central issues at hand. It was
evident they had meticulously prepared, wielding a strong knowledge base to build a compelling
case. However, even the most well-constructed arguments can benefit from a touch of polish.
Several recommendations can be made to strengthen Group 9's debate and allow them to connect
more effectively with their classmates. Firstly, by simplifying their arguments into concise
sentences and utilizing clear language, their message can be readily grasped and hold the class's
attention. Furthermore, incorporating specific examples or quantifiable data would bolster the
validity of their arguments. Concrete evidence serves to substantiate their claims, enhancing
both persuasiveness and relatability for the class. Additionally, a logical structure is paramount
for a smooth flow of ideas, ensuring the class effortlessly follows the progression of
arguments. Regular practice can minimize hesitations, thereby boosting confidence and the
overall impact of their performance. Finally, the inclusion of visual aids, such as charts or
graphs, can significantly enhance class engagement and further illustrate their points. By
focusing on these elements, Group 9 can achieve a marked improvement in clarity and
persuasiveness, ultimately leading to a more compelling and impactful debate performance. This
approach will not only solidify their arguments but also foster a stronger connection with the
class, leaving a lasting and impactful impression.

2. What we have learned

Team 9's presentation improved our comprehension of the study case, which demonstrates Hong
Kong Disneyland's human resources strategies and challenges. Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL)
excels in providing magical experiences by focusing on a motivated workforce, which is crucial
for its success in the theme park and service industry. They emphasize recruiting friendly,
innovative, and passionate employees. The park invests significantly in HR training and fosters
employee engagement through comprehensive training programs, transparent career paths, and a
fun work environment. This approach has led to high employee satisfaction and exceptional
guest ratings. HKDL is confident in spite of obstacles including dwindling mainland visitor
numbers and competition from Shanghai Disney Resort. The park is continuing to invest in HR

5
initiatives to maintain employee motivation and engagement while updating its offers with new
promos and attractions. From the discussion questions, we've learned several key insights about
employee motivation and management at Hong Kong Disneyland (HKDL):

In question 17-13, with the information what team 9 assumed. The key learnings are the work
environment and training and development. Working at HKDL offers a diverse and engaging
environment due to its mix of employees from around 30 nationalities and extensive training
programs, totaling 380,000 hours, play a crucial role in equipping employees with the skills and
knowledge needed to excel.

In question 17-14, the important key insight is the motivation theories. By addressing hygienic
elements (like fair salary and safe working conditions) and motivators (like growth chances and
recognition), HKDL can increase motivation by putting Herzberg's theory into practice. Equity
Theory also emphasizes how crucial it is to give rewards fairly in order to make sure that
workers feel appreciated.

In question 17-15, team 9 mentioned one of HKDL’s major challenges is maintaining high levels
of employee motivation. Strategies to address this include frequent training, effective reward
systems, and fostering a supportive work environment. Recognizing and rewarding exceptional
performance, similar to practices at companies like Google, can enhance motivation and
engagement.

In the last question, what we have learned is the managerial approach. As a manager, focusing on
recognition, empowerment through development opportunities, and celebrating the enjoyable
aspects of working at HKDL can significantly boost employee motivation. Creating a positive,
collaborative environment helps ensure that employees remain engaged and deliver exceptional
guest experiences.
