Expeditionary Survey Boat (ESB1604)

PICTURE OF SIMILAR VESSEL

GENERAL
Damen Shipyards Den Helder has recently developed a Expeditionary Survey Boat (ESB) for the Royal Netherlands Navy.

The ESB is primarily used for survey operations with the Landing Platform Docks of the RNLM, HNLMS Rotterdam and HNLMS Johan de Witt. A Quick Release hoisting system is fitted
which enables the vessels to be hoisted aboard the LPD. The main task of the ESB is to explore shallow waters and harbours prior of amphibious operations carried out from the LPD.

The Survey Craft is equipped with a variation of sensors to carry out underwater surveillance including two towfishes and several multi- single beam transducers.
The ESB is powered by two Volvo diesel engines, driving two fixed propellers through a reduction gearbox, thus giving the vessel a topspeed of approximately 20+ knots.
