Overview of Grade 1 Long term Plan/Scheme of Work
In Grade 1 of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), the music curriculum is
designed to provide a well-rounded musical education throughout the year, aligning with the seasons of
Monsoon (Varsha Ritu), Autumn (Sharad Ritu), Pre-Winter (Hemant Ritu), Winter (Shishir Ritu), Spring
(Vasant Ritu), and Summer (Grishma Ritu).

Semester 1 (Monsoon, Autumn, and Pre-Winter): August to December


Unit 1: Introduction to Musical Learner Profile
• Learning Objective: Learners will explore the concepts and values of the Musical Learner
Profile.

• Teaching Activities: Interactive discussions, listening to music, and exploring key musical
attributes.

• Learning Outcomes: Learners will gain an understanding of how to approach music as


learners.

Unit 2: Exploring Rhythms (Dalcroze Eurhythmics)


• Learning Objective: Learners will explore and foster an understanding of rhythm through
Dalcroze Eurhythmics.

• Teaching Activities: Rhythmic movement exercises and games.

• Learning Outcomes: Learners will develop rhythmic awareness and coordination.

Unit 3: Discovering Pitch (Kodály Method)


• Learning Objective: Learners will be introduced to the Kodály Method to explore pitch
and melody.

• Teaching Activities: Singing and engaging with simple melodies.

• Learning Outcomes: Learners will begin to grasp pitch and melodic concepts.

Unit 4: Introduction to Percussion (Orff Schulwerk)


• Learning Objective: Familiarizing learners with percussion instruments and basic
rhythmic patterns.

• Teaching Activities: Playing percussion instruments and creating rhythmic patterns.

• Learning Outcomes: Learners will gain hands-on experience with percussion


instruments.

writing lyrics with or without use of music technology.

Unit 8: Music and Movement (Dalcroze Eurhythmics)


• Learning Objective: Learners will explore combining music and movement to enhance
understanding.

• Teaching Activities: Coordinated movement to music.

• Learning Outcomes: Learners will improve their coordination and musical expression.

Unit 9: Exploring Music Elements


• Learning Objective: Learners will delve deeper into musical elements such as tempo,
dynamics, and timbre.

• Teaching Activities: Interactive exercises and discussions.

• Learning Outcomes: Learners will develop a more comprehensive understanding of


music.

Unit 10: Culminating Performance

Overview of Violin Long-term Plan/Scheme of Work

In this violin curriculum for Kyunghwa Jin June Lee, we combine the Suzuki Method with preparation for
the Rockschool Grade 1 Violin Music Examination. The program is divided into two semesters, aligning
with the seasons of Monsoon (Varsha Ritu), Autumn (Sharad Ritu), Pre-Winter (Hemant Ritu), Winter
(Shishir Ritu), Spring (Vasant Ritu), and Summer (Grishma Ritu). Each semester focuses on specific
learning objectives and activities to develop violin skills and prepare for the examination.

Semester 1 (Monsoon, Autumn, and Pre-Winter): August to December


Unit 1: Introduction to the Violin
• Learning Objective: Familiarize the learner with the violin and its basic components.

• Teaching Activities: Introduction to violin anatomy, care, and handling.

• Learning Outcomes: The learner understands the violin's structure and how to handle it.

Unit 2: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star


• Learning Objective: Begin playing simple melodies using the Suzuki Method.

• Teaching Activities: Introduction to the first Suzuki piece.

• Learning Outcomes: The learner can play a basic melody on the violin.

Unit 3: Bowing Technique


• Learning Objective: Develop proper bowing technique and control.

Unit 4: Review and Refinement of Twinkle
