Whale Shark

I am completed a sea creature advent calendar for my nieces and really

wanted a whale shark but all the patterns were to big so made my own! I
really like how it came out and hope to make a larger version soon!

Material.
3.5 hook (or what you like to use with the yarn choice)
One ball of Caron Simply Soft (5 oz) in blue (I used the soft blue because it was what I
had on hand but will be making others in a darker blue)

About 3 yards of white yarn (I used Bernat Baby Velvet snowy white)
6mm Safety Eyes

together

FO leaving long tail for sewing in the mouth.

Add eyes around Round 19 about 7 or 8 stitches apart (should be on side of head
where the inc/dec line up).
Add the white spots and lines to the back by using a needle and white yarn. Weave in
and out of the stitches the rows. Use the pictures for guidance but there is no right or
wrong way to add the details and some other crochet whale sharks are much more
detailed (add spots to the fins and tails if you want!).
Start stuffing the body but not too much as you will want it to be somewhat of a flat
shape and will need room to put the mouth in.

Fins.
(make 4, 2 for side fins and 2 for the tale.)
Rnd 1: 3 sc in a mc
Rnd 2: inc, 2 (4)
Rnd 3: inc, 3 (5)
Rnd 4: inc, 3 sc, inc (7)
Rnd 5: 7 sc around (7)

Dorsal Fin.
Rnd 1: 3 sc in a mc
Rnd 2: 2 inc, sc (5)
Rnd 3: 2 inc, 3 sc (7)
Rnd 4: 2 inc, 5 sc (9)
Rnd 5: 2 inc, 7 sc (11)

Mouth.
(if you are using left over yarn that is not the same brand as the body just check once
you get going that the mouth will fit snuggly in the body. Adjust chain length and number
of rows if needed. Number of rows for each color should measure about 1 inch.)
Row 1: (In pink) ch 7, turn, sc in 2nd st from hook 6 sc (6)
Row 2-6: ch 1, turn, 6 sc (6)
Row 7-12: (switching to white) ch 1, turn, 6 sc (6)

Fold the mouth in half and sew along the 2 sides with the extra yarn leaving the top
open.
Assembly.
Add side fins around round 14.
Sew dorsal fin from round 13 to 15/16.
Sew one of the fins for the tail at the end of the body in a slightly upward angle, then attach the
second fin to the base of the first (see picture below).
Push the mouth into the body so the open part of the mouth lines up with the last round of the
body. Using the long tail from the body, sew the mouth on with the white fold on top and pink on
the bottom.
Add hook, keychain, or leave as is and enjoy your Whale Shark!
