Fish Skin Wallet

Personalized handmade wallet made from fish skin. Like in any other industry related to food, one

of the byproducts of gutting and cutting fish is the fish skin. Other fish and components are used besides

the skin, which is particularly common on salmon fish. The production of fish leather is thought to be

particularly sustainable because it is a quick and efficient process. It can be applied to the fashion sector to

create clothing and accessories. Making leather out of fish skin is one way to recycle it.

Process of pre-production (fish leather making)

Materials to create fish skin leather:

• Fish skin (salmon)

• Knife, or other not-too-sharp tool

• Eggs and vegetable oil (e.g., sunflower oil)

• Basin or other container

• Soap and water

and; For tanning the fish leather:

• 105 tea bags

• Table Salt

• Oil (vegetable or animal oil)

• Spoon

Process of making the fish leather

Step 1: cleaning the skin.

Remove any external skin scales. Scales can be loosened by scraping them in the opposite direction

from how they grow . Use cold or lukewarm water to completely rinse the skin, then wring it out. The skin

will now resemble a reptile's skin to some extent.

Step 2: soaking the skin.

Place the clean fish skin in a suitable container. Add the egg and oil mixture and smear it all over

the skin. The mixture needs to be applied evenly over the entire surface of the skin, and it needs to soak for

around 24 hours.

Step 3: Treating the skin.

Remove the skin from the mixture and thoroughly rinse it with soap and water. Stretch the skin in

all directions to lengthen and widen it. Allow it to rest now and then but keep stretching and moving it until

it is almost dry. The skin should feel clammy after this treatment.

Process of tanning the fish skin leather

Step 1. Prepare the tea solution.

Place 15 tea bags in a pot with boiling water. Cooked it on an open fire with salt and stir until it

turned dark brown. Put it on a container and let it cool before using.

Step 2. soak the skin in the tea mixture.

Put the fish skin on the cold tea container. Leave it for a week, but every day it needed to replace

the tea to prevent the growth of mold and bacteria. Continue to stretch the skin in all directions to lengthen

and widen it.

Step 3. Drying and stretching with oil

After soaking it for a week, gently stretch and towel-dry the skin. Apply some oil (vegetable or

animal oil), then continue massaging and stretching the skin.

Following these steps, the skin has transformed into leather and is ready to be utilized to create items such

as wallets, belts, bags, and shoes.

Post-production (wallet the final product)

Tools and Materials:

• Fish leather

• Wallet pattern

• Ruler

• Rotary cutter

• Cutting mat

• Scoring tool

• Leather groover

• Medium-grit (200-400) sandpaper

• Mallet

• Needle

• Heavyweight cotton thread, such as for sewing denim.

Preparing the fish leather

Step 1. Make a wallet pattern.

There are numerous types of leather wallet patterns, including vertical western wallets, tri-fold

wallets, and bi-fold wallets. Select the ideal pattern. Cut out the paper pattern pieces once the pattern has

been selected.

Step 2. The fish leather can be softened by applying conditioning oil to it

The leather conditioner should be applied with roughly 1 tsp (5 mL) onto a clean cloth. Finally,

work the conditioner into the leather's right side with the rag (front or outer). To ensure complete

absorption, distribute the oil evenly. Never use leather conditioner on the incorrect side of leather (the back

or interior).

Step 3. The pattern pieces should be placed on top of the leather.

The pattern pieces should not overlap. For stability while cutting the leather, lay 1 or more weights

on top of the pattern pieces.rt2

Cutting the Leather

Step 1. Using a rotary cutter, cut the leather following the pattern pieces.

The pattern pieces should be laid over the leather after it has been placed on a plastic cutting mat.

To cut through the leather in a single pass, use adequate pressure with the rotary cutter. Cut smooth,

symmetrical lines whenever possible.

Step 2. The wallet piece edges should be angled by trimming along those edges.

Trimmed the edges of the leather using a "leather groover," a specialized tool.

Step 3. The wallet components' edges should be sanded in a single direction to make them smooth.

The edges of the leather should be smoothed out using sandpaper. This will make it more likely that

the edges won't become more frayed.

Assembling the Wallet

Step 1. Attach the smaller interior parts with glue to the interior piece.

The parts should be covered in leather glue before being pressed onto the right (front or exterior)

side of one of the main sections.

Step 2. Apply the leather glue around the edges of the inner pieces.

Place the small inner pieces on the large inner piece with the little inner pieces being about 0.5 in

(1.3 cm) from the sides of the large piece. Squeeze glue over the back of the small inner pieces and press

them onto the large inner piece. At least 8 hours of drying time are required for the glue.

Step 3. Score the outer and inner pattern pieces' edges.

Use a scoring instrument to make properly spaced lines on the bottom and sides of the inner pattern

pieces after the glue has dried. The marks should be 0.15 in (0.38 cm) apart and should be placed 0.25 in

(0.64 cm) apart from the margins of the leather pieces.

Step 4. Sew the leather along the inner sections' edges.

The first score mark is where you should insert a threaded needle to pass through the first layer of

leather and out the other side. Reposition the needle such that it exits through the second score mark after

passing through the leather a second time. Until the first inner wallet piece is finished, keep sewing in and

out of the score markings. Replicate the procedure for the second inside wallet piece.

Step 5. Combine the wallet body's front and back sections.

A 46 cm (18 in) long strand of thread should be threaded through a needle, and the end should be

knotted. Hand stitch the wallet's body's edges together using the threaded needle. When stitching, follow

the score marks as a guide.

Step 6. Cut the thread after tying the final stitch.

Sew through the final thread twice more after finishing sewing the edges of the two substantial

wallet components. Put the needle through one layer of leather after the second stitch so that the end of the

thread emerges on the interior of the wallet. Then, knot the thread as closely as you can to the leather. From

the knot, trim the extra thread approximately 0.25 in (0.64 cm) away.

Abstract

Leather is formed when animal skins are tanned or subjected to a chemical process. Leather is

widely available and used in practically every industry, including fashion, upholstery, sports, machinery,

the automotive industry, aviation, etc. Leather is one of the durables, adaptable, and long-lasting material.

Although leather is commonly made from the skins of cows, sheep, crocodiles, and snakes, it can also be

made from fish skin. The creation of fish skin leather is based on recycling food industry waste into a

functional and appealing fabric for the apparel and textile sectors. The technique of tanning the fish skin

leather is chemical-free since it uses natural materials. Given that the method is organic, biodegradable,

and renewable, using fish skins to make leather has very few negative environmental effects.

A handmade fish skin leather wallet is one that is constructed with care to have the ideal materials

and features for various occasions. It was a formal wallet made of aesthetically beautiful and
