Background of the Study

COVID-19 is shaking the world economy and it is a pandemic that is

creating a giant disruption to life and livelihood as well as social and economic

systems in the world

Based on various reports, this is the most terrible global crisis. This virus is highly

transmissible and spread with uneven progress in every corner of the world

without any difference. This is a systemic shock with profound implications, both

in the short and medium to long term. This virus caused a major short-term

economic recession, closed many companies, both large and small, put tens of

millions out of work, and had other effects on business activities. To prevent

rates of unemployment, poverty, and food insecurity, from further skyrocketing

any time soon, small and medium enterprises around the world can and must

play a vital role.

Small businesses are the backbone of any economy, and with the ripple

effect of COVID-19 on economies around the world. In view of this upcoming

scenario the researchers aims to conduct a study regarding the challenges faced

by small business owners in the midst of covid 19 and determine how they faced

the challenges they experienced in the amidst of the pandemic.

Setting of the Study

The research was conducted in Taytay Rizal. Taytay, official municipality

of Taytay. The town of Taytay is a first class town in the province of Rizal,

Philippines. It is also known as the Garments Capital of the Philippines. Most of

the work of the residents is related to providing various types of garments related
to things like gblouses, pants, dresses and the clothes themselves at a very low

cost. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 386,451 people. [4] It

is the 2nd most populous municipality in the country, after Rodriguez, Rizal.

business owners in the province of taytay rizal, the place we choose will help us

Theoretical Framework

The article "After clouds sunshine: A theoretical framework for SMEs

survival amidst of COVID-19 pandemic" discusses the importance of

entrepreneurial orientation (EO) among small and medium-sized enterprises

(SMEs) in the current economic and social landscape, which has been

significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors argue that

traditional business practices focused solely on profit are no longer sufficient for
SMEs to survive and succeed. Instead, SMEs need to adopt a value-creation

strategy and seek a sustainable competitive advantage.

The article reviews the literature on EO and SME performance and

builds a conceptual framework for empirical validation. The authors propose that

EO has a positive impact on SME performance, and this relationship is mediated

by innovation practices (IP). The article highlights the importance of IP as a

mediator in the EO-SME performance relationship, which has received little

attention in previous research. The authors also emphasize the role of

government support in technology, innovativeness, and finance, which is crucial

for SMEs to implement innovative practices effectively.

The proposed conceptual framework includes three main constructs:

EO, IP, and government support, which have direct and indirect effects on SME

performance. The authors suggest that government support moderates the

relationship between IP and SME performance, implying that effective

government support can enhance the impact of IP on SME performance. Overall,

this article contributes to the existing literature on EO and SME performance by

proposing a theoretical framework that highlights the importance of innovation

practices and government support. The article provides valuable insights for

SMEs and policymakers seeking to promote SMEs' survival and success in the

current economic and social landscape.
