Introductory Message
Welcome to English Grade Four!

The Learning Activity Sheet is a product of the collaborative


efforts of the Schools Division of Aklan and DepEd Regional Office VI -
Western Visayas through the Curriculum and Learning Management
Division (CLMD). This is developed to guide the learning facilitators
(teachers, parents and responsible adults) in helping the learners meet
the standards set by the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum.

The Learning Activity Sheet is self-directed instructional materials


aimed to guide the learners in accomplishing activities at their own pace
and time using the contextualized resources in the community. This will
also assist the learners in acquiring the lifelong learning skills, knowledge
and attitudes for productivity and employment.

For learning facilitator:

The English Activity Sheet will help you facilitate the leaching-
learning activities specified in each Most Essential Learning Competency
(MELC) with minimal or no face-to-face encounter between you and
learner. This will be made available to the learners with the
references/links to ease the independent learning.

For the learner:

The English Activity Sheet is developed to help you continue


learning even if you are not in school. This learning material provides you
with meaningful and engaging activities for independent learning. Being
an active learner, carefully read and understand the instructions then
perform the activities and answer the assessments. This will be returned
to your facilitator on the agreed schedule.

II. Background Information for Learners

What is a Fact?
A fact is something that is true and supported by evidence.

Example:
Dogs are domestic animals.

What is an Opinion?
An opinion is only a belief. It is also an expression of a person’s
feelings. Clue words like think, believe, feel, probably, or seems
signals an opinion.

Example:
Modern medicine has improved the lives of American families.
Computer aided diagnosis and new surgical equipment quickly
identify disease and treatment procedures.

Activity 1
Directions: Read each statement carefully. Identify which
statement is a fact or an opinion. Write your answers in
your activity notebook

Activity 2
Directions: Read the selection entitled “Bayangan Festival”.
The sentences that follow are taken from the selection. Write
FACT if the sentence expresses a fact and OPINION if it
expresses a feeling or belief. Do this in your activity
notebook.

Bayangan Festival

The town of Lezo is well-known not just for the pot


making, production of homemade rice pop or “ampaw” but
also famous to its colorful celebration of Bayangan Festival.
This festival is celebrated in honor of the feast of St. Isidore
the farmer, the patron saint of the town.

Launched in 2011, Bayangan Festival showcases


cultural dance presentation and showdown with the concept
of “Pagbayang.” This festivity is a street dancing and merry
making in the streets of Poblacion Lezo. Bayangan is a
native dialect meaning “potter’s wheel.” It is used to mold
clay into various pottery products. For most Lezeños, this

craft symbolizes the true values, traditions and heritage of
the town.

Colorful dresses, paints and clay are all over the


bodies of every dancer. The use of pots, bamboos, flaglets
and other indigenous materials are some of the props that
make the performers more attractive.

Truly Bayangan Festival is a distinct celebration of


Lezeños culture and bountiful blessings from above.
