In Grade 1, All teaching should begin with concrete materials (real objects such as cups, plates,
napkins, chairs; interlocking cubes, sticks, abacus, fingers, tens frames, number lines, tally marks and
hundreds boards). Students then need to move to imaging objects and counting them in their head.
Critical thinking: because students should know how we draw a tally marks. Communication,
Information Literacy, Media Literacy, Flexibility (children worked on Near Pod) and Productivity.
