Summary: this book is about a class with a teacher. They are from the Hawkwood School. The teacher
found that children must have ambition. He says that the children themselves must register for a
competition with running, shouting, swimming and cross country riding. There are some children who like
that. The teacher, called Sam Sylvester, selected a team. The children in the team are: Hoomey, Jazz,
Bean and Gary. Because Nutty is a girl she can’t play with them, so she is the coach. All 4 boys get a
horse. They are not really good horses but she has no money for better horses. Hoomey called his horse
Bones, because it is very thin. Jazz get a circus horse and called him Spot. Bean called his horse Whizzo
because he is very slow. The horses are sleeping and living in an old factory. Nails, the brother of Gary,
was in a night going to the horses. He loves Gary’s horses very much and calls it Luck Lady Firelight. She
must have lessons but it’s £50,00 a week. That’s too much. The competition doesn’t continue. The horses
are from a slaughterhouse when they stop the horses are still dead. Jazz and Hoomey realise that. Nutty
had an idea: she asked Nails to be the fourth player and she herself the third player. Nails agrees. She find
a horsewoman who wants to give them lessons. Nails learn the children swimming (very hard-handed).
They run of and to school. They practice the complete winter. When it becomes spring, it’s always busy in
the swimming pool. So they look for an other swimming pool. They find a Privé swimming pool from a Seb
Smith. On Friday evening there’s nobody in the swimming pool so the team from the Hawkwood school is
going to train there. On a moment it’s going fault. The mother in the house is coming home. And the
My opinion: I found this a nice book bud the book was very difficult. Bud the content was nice.
