2 July 2010

From Debbie
Hi everyone,
Last day of term and I am happy to say that we have got here without too much hassle.
At the beginning of the term I wondered how we would fair with the extra week of
school, but we have managed very well indeed. There has been minor sickness which is
great and listening to the noise and laughter out there as the children go about their
“clean and green” jobs we are in good spirits.

For staff we are already thinking about next term with production. The children have al-
ready been introduced to the music and some to the script of our show. Early next term
we will be auditioning for parts and looking for some help to get costumes etc ready. We
have deliberately chosen a script that has simple costuming so I don’t think we will need
to have the mammoth sewing bee we had last time, but we will be looking for help to
co-ordinate costumes for us. We will be presenting the show at the Globe theatre this
year, as their staging, lighting and sound system are well placed and priced for our needs.

Looking ahead as staff we are aware that it will be a very busy term. We have our own
school science fair, the Manawatu science fair, learning conferences, winter tournament,
preparation for speeches and camps in term 4, the cluster visual arts festival and of
course regular classroom teaching. With this in mind we have made a decision to not par-
ticipate in the BP Challenge this year as we will not have the time to properly prepare the
students for the event. Learning conferences are scheduled in August from the 9th to
the 13th. We will send out requests for time in the first week of next term.

Sandy and Anna have now booked camps for term four. We have been very lucky with our
Y7/8 camp because we have managed to get a four day camp for the price of three days.
The focus of this camp will be Bush safety and the children will have a chance to camp out
and cook their own dinner and breakfast as part of their camp experience. We will look to
have camp meetings in term three.

For those families off on holidays I hope you have a fantastic time. For staff Anna will be
thinking about packing for her trip later in the year to America, Sandy will be getting to
know her new puppy, Pirate, Cheryl will be turning her hand to home decorating and rip-
ping up the carpet, Ashlee will be catching up with family, Kirsten and Tania will be busy
with sporting events with their children, Denise will be on Jury service and I will be dot-
ing on my lovely little grandson Levi. I can’t wait, he arrives tomorrow at midnight and will
be with us for three whole weeks!

Stories from Colorful Eights
I knew it was going to be an unusual day when………
Mum came into my room and said “there’s a rat under the cupboard, get out before
it gets you”. Mum put me into the car before the rat got me. Before I get in the car
mum told me it was a giant rat. It left after a while.

Mum came into my bedroom and said “there’s a wolf on the roof!” Boom, boom,
boom went the tippy toes of the wolf. Crash, crash, crash went the wolf on the roof
and suddenly the wolf opened the door and we all screamed. “Aagghh!” we all
screamed. The wolf ripped all of the walls. The wolf gobbled us all up. We were all
gone in a flash. But it was just a dream because when I got up in the morning there
was a wolf right in front of me. “Aagghh!” I screamed. I yelled out to mum but she
couldn't hear me because she was out for a run with her ipod on and dad was do-
ing the lawns. But it wasn't a real wolf, it was my cousin dressed up in a costume
“You silly cousin” I said.
“I was doing that so you would get used to real ones.”
“Oh” I said “you nearly horrified me.”

Mum came into my room and said “ the world it turning into a jungle!” I felt the floor
changing into grass. I bumped into one of the palm trees. It was creepy as my
mum turning into a robot. I found that I was riding a tiger. “Ahh!” I yelled. The tiger
flung me off and I landed in a cold, freezing puddle. I said “brrr.” I found an elephant.
“Wow” I said in amazement. The elephant was as big as a mammoth with another
mammoth on top. “Can I ride you elephant?’ I said.
“Phhh” horted the elephant.
“I’ll take that as a yes” I said. I hopped on the elephant. I found Anahera. “Hi Ana-
hera.” I said.
“Hi Ali” Anahera said.
I found something. I touched it and the world changed back to normal.
