STEP Standard 7 – Reflecting on Instruction to Improve Student

Progress
Improved Practice Based on the Unit of Study
Based on the experience of developing and delivering your instructional unit, list three short-
term goals to improve specific areas of your teaching practice based on the unit of instruction
and describe your plan to reach each short-term goal.

Plan to Reach the Goal (i.e., professional

Short-Term Goal development, research on the Internet,
observation of a veteran teacher, etc.)
1. Organization for class participation, Participating in professional developments
getting students to participate and workshops (staff development day). I have
keeping better track who participated not been to one since the school year started.
Also participating in outside professional
developments will be a point of emphasis too.
Exposing myself to different strategies and
learning from different people from different
school districts.
2. Connecting better with all students In general my student engagement with all
who I work with. the students I work with have resulted in
positive results. However, I do not believe I
am reaching all the students at the same
level. I know most current trends and that is
probably thanks to my age (below 32),
however this is of course not enough. I will
be able to find methods to help improve this
by using the internet and finding research on
reaching out to students. I do a lot of
observing for my clinical experience when I
am not leading a lesson and it helps. Using
additional resources found on the internet
along with observing veteran teachers will
surely help me improve.

3. Data collection This will be necessary skill to improve.

Collecting data is ever present in the
profession. Whenever I can find a more
efficient and easier way to collect data
whether it be for behavior goals, grading,
etc., will make me a better teacher. Asking
for other teachers advice would be the
method I would opt. More experienced
teachers will surely have multiple methods
depending on what data is being collected.

Long-Term Goals: Teachers who are dedicated to their profession and to improving the lives of
students will continually look for ways to grow and learn. The best way to ensure that learning is
prioritized is to create a long-term goal. Create one long term goal that is specific and
measurable. Make sure to discuss the following:
Long-Term Goal:
Rationale: Why did you choose this goal? How One long term goal I want to work is
do you expect it to improve the outcomes of your developing IEP goals that will improve the
future students? development of the student. I choose this goal
because I will eventually have to make IEP
goals for students. Having the proper IEP
goals that best fits that student will affect how
will they do in classes. More importantly, IEP
goals will also affect their ability to perform
outside of class by aiding them to develop
productive habits that will help them aspects
outside of school.
End Date: By when do you expect to accomplish I want to accomplish this goal by June 28,
this goal? 2021.
Action Timeline: What steps will you take to I have not been in one full IEP meeting yet,
complete this goal, and by when will you take but have read plenty of IEP goals for students
them? Example: and discussed them with teachers. I have been
1/31/18: Join AACTE apart of collecting data for IEP goals as well,
but I want to try to attend a IEP meeting. I
believe in doing so will I get a better standing
on developing proper IEPs goals. As soon as I
get the chance to attend a IEP meeting is
when I can properly start the action timeline. I
choose June as the end of the timeline
because the school year should be over by
then. This gives me plenty of time to attend a
IEP meeting and understand better the process
of creating IEP goals better.
Resources: What resources are available to assist The only resources that can help me achieve
you in accomplishing your goal? this is the district office and the head of
special education department. Of course the
stakeholders of the IEP team are important as
well.
